In the center of the mandala, dig a hole and bury treasures such as precious stones, and level the ground. The base of the mandala, slightly inclined to the east and north, should be as clear and bright as a mirror. Then, purify the land with various postures that possess fire offerings, mantras, and mudras, and protect it with five weapons. The blessings of the deities are absorbed into the land, and one should contemplate the land fully manifesting the nature of the mandala, all of which should be learned in detail from elsewhere. For those who do not need such complexity, a concise method of purifying the land is: contemplate the syllable ཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) in the palm of your right hand, and contemplate that light radiates from it, eliminating all faults such as the sting of the earth. Clap the ground with your hand, or make a clapping gesture, and purify by reciting "Oṃ hana hana krodha hūṃ phaṭ" twenty-one or one hundred and eight times. Then, contemplate that this land is empty in its nature as space, and recite "Oṃ bhrūṃ" as much as possible. From that emptiness, the land transforms into the nature of a vajra, and in all directions, above and below, the entire space is filled with protective wheels such as vajra walls and vajra tents, contemplating it as a nature that cannot be penetrated by any obstacles. Recite "Oṃ vajra rakṣa rakṣa hūṃ hūṃ hūṃ phaṭ svāhā." Then, if you like, you can also contemplate that the blessings of the deities transform all the land into the nature of the mandala. Next, when preparing to build the mandala, prepare all the necessary items such as vajra pegs, thread, colored powder, vases, etc. If you like, you can request the master to build the mandala. With the pride of the deity, recite the mantra slightly, wash your hands, and mix the five milks and incense to smear the base of the mandala, smearing it clockwise with your right hand without lifting your hand, and scatter flowers, contemplating that it instantly becomes a palace with a protective wheel. In the center, place a bouquet of flowers on a square drop of perfume, and recite the root mantra of any deity, instantly and clearly visualizing all the deities of any mandala, and bless the three places. Invite the wisdom being to descend. Contemplate the empowerment being performed, and the head being crowned by the lord of the family.
