The Doctrine of Wisdom. The Doctrine of Wisdom. Secondly, regarding the teaching on the wisdom of fruition, there are two aspects: dependent wisdom and the explanation of abiding meditative absorption. The first has two aspects: the state and the name for the occasion of the completion of the state. The first has two aspects: the nature of wisdom and the qualities encompassed by wisdom. The first has two aspects: classification and the distinctions among them. The first has two aspects: the general classification of wisdom based on its foundation, and the detailed explanation of the classification of the ten wisdoms based on their objects. First, if one asks, what is the difference between forbearance and wisdom, and between right view and right knowledge? Then, the eight undefiled forbearances are not wisdom, because wisdom is of the nature of certainty. But the forbearances are the path of non-interruption, so at that time, because one has not abandoned one's own subtle afflictions to be abandoned, one has doubt about one's own object. Those forbearances are of the nature of correct realization, so they are views. "Undefiled" refers to forbearance. Defiled is wisdom. The wisdom of cessation and non-arising is not a view, because it is not a correct realization, nor is it a mind that seeks objects and aspects. It is merely realizing that there is nothing to be done, and not contemplating the four truths, so the result is already complete. That is called right knowledge, and it is not even just knowledge. Other than the eight forbearances and the knowledge of cessation and non-arising, the wisdom of the noble ones, that is, the eight uncontaminated wisdoms from the knowledge of the nature of suffering to the knowledge of the path, are both wisdom and right view. Because it is the path of liberation, it is of the nature of certainty, having abandoned doubt about its own object, and it is also of the nature of correct realization. All worldly wisdom with defilements other than the wisdom of the noble ones is conventional wisdom, because it is impossible for defilements to have wisdom that is not wisdom, and any wisdom is wisdom. All the wisdom arising from the five sense faculties, whether virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral, and the wisdom arising from the mind consciousness, except for the six views, the afflicted and the unobscured neutral, are only wisdom. The five afflicted views such as the view of the aggregates arising from the mind consciousness, and the six worldly right views, are not only conventional wisdom, but also views, because they are of the nature of definite realization.
