Although some say that this is directly stated, if it is a cause, then it is an origin, because it is not merely the aspect of the truth of suffering, so it is unreasonable, etc. Some say that feeling is suffering, just like using too much food, etc., but if suffering is due to harm and unpleasantness, then happiness is due to benefit and pleasantness. If a happy thought arises from small suffering, then a painful thought arises from small happiness, so they are equal to each other. Whatever is said to be felt as suffering also refers to the changing and impermanent nature of formations. The sutra says that even if a feeling of happiness arises, it contradicts the scriptures of happiness, etc. Because the feeling of happiness is established by direct perception, the two, happiness and suffering, are contradictory, so there is harm. The Sautrāntikas, etc., believe that only craving is the origin, and do not believe that suffering is the origin. Although the final aggregates of an Arhat are suffering, they are not considered to be the origin. In the Compendium it says: From the eye to the mind of the last Arhat, it is from the eye to the mind, but it is not their realm. Third, incidentally, the other two truths: For any dharma, if it is destroyed by an antidote, and if otherness is eliminated by wisdom, then for that dharma, the wisdom of clinging does not arise, just like a pot and water, which exist only as conventional designations, this is the conventional truth. That which exists in the ultimate is the ultimate truth, which is different from the way in which the conventional exists as described above. Some also say that if earth, etc., is excluded from water, the wisdom of water does not arise, then that is conventional, but it also needs to be observed. The two examples given are: Is it the two types of destruction by destruction and destruction by wisdom? Or are there two types of conventionality of shape and conventionality of aggregation? Or there are two types of conventionality that depend on others and conventionality that depend on other substances, so the commentators explain it this way. Therefore, permanence and grossness are conventional. Particles and moments are ultimate. If the higher vehicles eliminate partiality, because they abandon the wisdom of self-grasping that cannot be tolerated by examination, then this is also conventional. Second, the order of realizing the truth has two parts: the common order of the three trainings and the separate explanation of meditation. First, there are two types: the actual and the determination of the objects of hearing, etc. First, abiding in any of the seven classes of vows of individual liberation, which is the cause of non-distraction, and thus striving for hearing that is in accordance with seeing the truth, which is the cause of non-delusion.

And, because of possessing the thought of the meaning of the cause of determination without any inversion, therefore, cultivating the meaning of the cause of severance is what connects excellently to samadhi. Second, the wisdom that arises from hearing and so forth, thinking and meditating, the wisdom that arises from hearing is focused on letters and names, so it has that as its object; thinking is sometimes letters lead to meaning, and sometimes meaning leads to letters, so it is both; meditation does not rely on letters but enters into meaning, so it is only the object of meaning. For example, those who are not accustomed to swimming, those who are slightly accustomed, and those who are well accustomed are dependent on something to hold on to, such as a wooden board, sometimes dependent and sometimes not, and completely independent, it is thought. If so, thinking will become both, so it is not reasonable. Therefore, the self-condition is the trusted scripture, and the investigation with reason, and the realization of meaning from being placed in samadhi are the three wisdoms in order. So it is explained. Second, explaining meditation in detail, there are two: the basis on which it arises, and the actual way of how to meditate. The first has the actual, and the identification of its dissimilar and similar aspects. First. It is indicated by "possessing two separations", the meditator of the path must be one who possesses two separations, that is, dwelling alone and separating from the busyness of the body, and the mind separating from conceptual thoughts, thereby pacifying the non-virtuous and afflicted conceptual thoughts. The second has two: explaining the dissimilar aspect and explaining the similar aspect. The first has two: indication and explanation. First. These two do not occur in those who are not content and those who are greedy. Second. To be greedy again and again for obtaining abundant Dharma robes and so on is not being content; to desire and think about not obtaining those is being very greedy. Although it is said that way, to be greedy for obtaining Dharma robes and so on again and again is also to be greedy for not obtaining, so that also belongs to the latter, so being unhappy with obtaining a small amount of bad things is not being content, and desiring not obtaining good and many things is being very greedy. Or, desiring what was not obtained before is great desire, and even if obtained, desiring better and more than that is not being content. The second has two: identifying the essence and explaining the differences of those. First. The opposite of that is having few desires and being content.
