Being unshaken and able to endure, and understanding that meaning correctly, not changing from that, therefore it is considered stable. Because those three dharmas enable Bodhisattvas to enter the path of practice without fear. If what kind of fear arises? Those without diligence will have the fear of cowardice, thinking, "I cannot accomplish the deeds of a Bodhisattva"; those without Samadhi, because they cannot keep their minds focused on one point, will have the fear of fluctuating thoughts; those without wisdom, because they do not know what the deeds of a Bodhisattva are, due to ignorance, they will be at a loss as to what to do and will have fear. Cowardice and the like, those three, because the things that Bodhisattvas have to practice are not under their control, they will have the fear of "I cannot accomplish it." Therefore, the antidote to those three fears—diligence, Samadhi, wisdom—whichever of the three is naturally or inherently accomplished, the original three, because they are not taken away by opposing factors, therefore know that they are named stable. Each is constant and does not require effort, diligence is naturally accomplished, and Samadhi and wisdom are naturally accomplished, because there is inherent or constant, without cowardice and the like, the most stable is the characteristic of stability. For the initial practitioners, if there is no cowardice in the nature of the mind, and they can engage in activities, then just in that regard, in a way of relative establishment, know that it is named inherent diligence and so on. Second, the first division of stability is eightfold: natural stability, which means that from the power of lineage, with the element of the three, diligence, Samadhi, and wisdom, there is no fear of cowardice and the like for the deeds of a Bodhisattva; aspirational stability, which means that after generating the supreme Bodhicitta, in order to attain great Bodhi and completely liberate all sentient beings, one makes the aspiration not to regress or change, no matter where one is born, one will not change and will become stable. Moreover, the root of all the immeasurable aspirations of Bodhisattvas that arise until the Buddha-ground is this initial generation of Bodhicitta, relying on this initial aspiration for Bodhi.

All the pure lands where wishes arise, from then on, all wishes become more and more firm. The so-called "without attachment" refers to relying on self-interest, and for the sake of accomplishing one's own benefit, not caring for body and life, without attachment and fear. Relying on benefiting others means that even if sentient beings make various wrong actions, one will not be tired of them and will remain firm. The so-called "profound" refers to relying on the meaning of suchness, not being afraid of the profound meaning of emptiness, which is originally without birth and death, and firmly believing in it. Relying on power means fearlessly believing in accomplishing vast qualities such as clairvoyance, strength, and fearlessness. For those sentient beings whose afflictions are extremely strong and difficult to subdue, one does not easily give up, but uses various methods to subdue them for a long time, which is relying on completely maturing sentient beings. Regarding the inconceivable qualities of the Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and Nirmanakaya of the Buddhas, thinking "I must accomplish them," and the mind does not turn back, this is relying on the supreme Bodhi. Thus, eight kinds of firmness are explained. Again, the three categories of firmness are: for the sake of unsurpassed Bodhi, practicing various immeasurable and boundless ascetic practices, this is relying on ascetic practice to be firm. With the heart of benefiting others, not abandoning samsara, and fully accepting being born in various samsaric existences, this is relying on being born according to one's wish to be firm. When being born in samsara, one is not contaminated by the faults and afflictions of samsara, this is relying on being without afflictions to be firm. Thus, when firmness arises in the firm continuum of a Bodhisattva, it is different from the firmness of worldly people and Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and it is considered the supreme of those who possess firmness. Third, unchanging means: just as the power of the wings of butterflies and eagles, and the waves of the great ocean cannot shake Mount Sumeru, these three metaphors are applied in order, and the firm Bodhisattvas will not be disturbed by bad friends, various sufferings, and hearing the profound teachings of emptiness and selflessness. Third, not being weary refers to Bodhi
