For example, compared to discipline, generosity is considered inferior, while discipline is praised as superior. Therefore, these four different intentions should be understood. These statements with intentions are very numerous, and here only some are shown as a summary. Third, to counteract the eight obscurations, the supreme Mahayana Dharma is taught: For example, the Shakya King appeared when the lifespan was a hundred years, with a small stature and a lifespan of only eighty years, and the land was also impure, and the beings to be tamed were also endowed with the five degenerations. Compared to the Buddhas like Dipamkara who appeared in the auspicious kalpa of perfection, those were superior. Our own teacher is inferior to them, to counteract this contempt for the Buddha, (the Buddha said) I became the Buddha Dipamkara at that time, because all Buddhas are equal in the Dharmakaya, without good or bad, this is (the Buddha's) intention. But for the beings to be tamed, they will think that Dipamkara is also the teacher, so they will not be attached to high or low distinctions. Disparaging the Dharma, Brahmins distinguish castes, Brahmins and Kshatriyas and other high castes should not enjoy the things of Chandalas and others, but the Buddha's Dharma can be practiced even by low caste Chandalas, so it is easy to obtain, to counteract this contempt. (The Buddha said) If you make offerings to Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, you will truly understand the Mahayana Dharma, which shows that without such accumulation, it is difficult to realize, thus avoiding the contempt of thinking that the Dharma is easy to obtain. For lazy people, even a little merit cannot arise, (the Buddha said) if you make aspirations in Sukhavati, you will be reborn there. Similarly, just remembering the name of the Tathagata Immaculate Moon, you will attain unsurpassed Bodhi. And so on, and reciting any Dharani will purify the five heinous crimes, etc., like this, even lazy people, by making such aspirations, remembering the Buddha's name, accumulating merit through the way of reciting Dharani, by virtue of such causes, one day, as it is said, will surely be reborn in Sukhavati, attain Bodhi, etc. And just relying on such causes, they will also become more and more diligent, thereby counteracting laziness. Just a little merit is enough.

For example, to counter the attachment of those who are content with just giving, it is shown by praising morality and disparaging giving as inferior to morality. Also, like especially praising the uncontaminated virtue over the contaminated worldly virtue. Furthermore, to counter the arrogance of some beings who are puffed up by their own body and possessions, after hearing the praise of the vast body and possessions of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, they will think that even if the worldly body and possessions are good, they are nothing great. To counter the attachment to the inferior worldly enjoyments, the five sense pleasures, the Buddha praised, saying that the blissful enjoyments of the pure lands are immeasurable, like this and that. In this way, (beings) will see the contaminated, suffering nature of cyclic existence's sense pleasures as like loathsome vomit, and thus generate revulsion. Also, for some beings who, due to ignorance, harm Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and later remember this, regretting and saying: I have done something very inappropriate, I will fall into the lower realms. This regret disturbs their minds and becomes an obstacle to properly engaging in virtue. To counter this, (the Buddha) said that even harming Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, one can still go to the higher realms, thereby dispelling their regret. They will think: Even harming them, one can be born in the higher realms, what need is there to mention benefiting them? Thus, faith arises, and the roots of virtue gradually increase. Although there is the suffering result of harming Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, considering that the power of the aspirations of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will one day connect them to the bliss of the higher realms and so on, it was said that way for the sake of countering (evil deeds). For those Bodhisattvas of uncertain lineage, who previously practiced the conduct of Bodhisattvas, but later were guided by spiritual friends such as Shravakas to practice the Shravaka Vehicle, and abandoned the conduct of Bodhisattvas, to counter their thought that they have retreated from the Mahayana, (the Buddha) showed that even Shravakas will ultimately attain Buddhahood, thus converging into one vehicle. In this way, those who wish to attain Nirvana through the Shravaka Vehicle will also incline towards the Mahayana. Thus, the Buddha

And whatever the eight, such as disrespect for the Dharma, are all obstacles for sentient beings. To counteract these obstacles, the supreme Mahayana is taught. From that supreme Mahayana, the eight remedies just mentioned can enable that person to abandon all obstacles, or rather, the faults that hinder entry into the Mahayana. If someone, through words or meaning, expounds the eight remedies for abandoning the eight obstacles, just like the two verses in the second verse of the dharani, such as "Buddha and disrespect for the Dharma." If one can keep these words in mind and clearly distinguish this meaning from that meaning, and diligently act accordingly, then that supreme sentient being with wisdom will obtain ten qualities. What are the ten? It is to generate joy and faith in all Mahayana teachings, and the lineage or realm of the Mahayana will be exhausted, that is, all will be seen. And at the time of death, one will obtain great joy. These two are the qualities that can manifest in this life. There are eight that can manifest in the next life: after death, one can be reborn according to one's own wishes; all rebirths can remember past lives; one can meet the teachers, the Buddhas; one can hear the supreme Mahayana Dharma from the Buddhas; one can generate faith in the Mahayana and have wisdom that understands the meaning; one can obtain the door of samadhi such as the courageous conduct, and the two doors of dharani such as the inexhaustible treasury; and finally, one can quickly attain unsurpassed Bodhi. Fifth, to summarize the meaning by praising the merits of teaching the Dharma: In this way, the excellent wisdom that can expound the Dharma without inversion, constantly having the spirit of teaching the Dharma without fatigue, not for fame and gain but having compassion for sentient beings, having the six perfections, widely spreading the good name of the holy and wise in the world, being able to teach the corresponding Dharma to different sentient beings, etc., having skillful ways or rituals of teaching the Dharma. Such a Bodhisattva is one who speaks the Dharma well. By teaching the Dharma, he shines like the sun in the assembly of people, and benefits sentient beings like the sun brings warmth and ripens crops.
