As it transforms. Whatever virtue is accumulated from various aspects, dedicating it to enlightenment also becomes one meaning. As it is said, in order to make the accumulated virtue meaningful, one must make dedication. There are four aspects to it: the object of dedication, the dedication itself, for whom it is done, and the manner or method. Among them, the object of dedication is generally the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, or the roots of virtue accumulated by oneself and others in the three times, or the virtues that are conducive to merit and conducive to liberation, etc., which become the cause of ripening happiness, or all virtues. Among them, the root of virtue arising from generosity is particularly important here. Moreover, it is a complete generosity with the three aspects of field, intention, and object being pure. Among them, the field is as stated in the Bodhicaryāvatāra: "The field of qualities and the field of benefit, from the suffering ones, great virtue arises." Although many differences of fields are explained, here the main one is as stated in the Mahāvaipulya Sūtra: "Like sowing seeds in a fertile field, the Sangha, the Three Jewels, are the most supreme." Also, in the Sutra of Recollection, it is said: "The field of the splendor of merit, the great field of completely purifying qualities, having become the place of generosity, also having become the great place of all generosity." As it is said, the Sangha itself is the pure field, so it is well complete here. The intention is that if one gives with the mind of wanting to attain complete enlightenment for the sake of others, then the intention is pure, so please intend in that way. The object is that there is no fault of having been accomplished by harming others, etc., giving at the right time and without regret, giving pleasingly and without expecting ripening. Thus, the object with distinctions is pure. Thus, taking the generosity with the three aspects of field, intention, and object being pure as the main thing, the virtue represented by it, no matter when it is done, no matter by whom it is done, all the roots of virtue accumulated by oneself and others in the three times can be gathered and dedicated. As it is said in the Avatamsaka Sutra: "All the roots of virtue that beings have, those that have been done, are being done, and will be done, in such excellent places, may all of them touch excellence from all sides." And as it is said in the Compendium: "The virtues of learners and non-learners, with outflows and without outflows, all gathered together."

Rejoicing in the mind of enlightenment, dedicating everything for the sake of enlightenment for the benefit of beings. Thus it is said. Dedication is: dedicating with a mind of attachment and aversion for the purpose of defeating enemies and obtaining objects of attachment is a perverse dedication; dedicating to the state of hearers and solitary realizers is an inferior dedication. Therefore, one should abandon these minds and dedicate only to the state of the All-Knowing Buddha. As it is said in the Twenty Thousand Verses: "That root of virtue should not be dedicated to the state of hearers or solitary realizers, but only to the All-Knowing." The teacher Ashvaghosa also said: "Those roots of virtue that have been accomplished, fame, praise, the happiness of gods and humans, and the mind of samsara with hope, are all separated, and dedicated to the cause of transcendence." Thus it is said. Dedicating to the state of Buddhahood is like when the harvest is good, the roots and stems also benefit. Likewise, all temporary happiness such as long life, freedom from disease, perfect lineage and enjoyment, will naturally arise. What needs to be done specifically is: if one dedicates only for oneself or for a few close relatives, even if one has accumulated a great deal of merit, it will be wasted by being used for small purposes. But if one dedicates for the sake of limitless sentient beings, even a small virtue will become great, because the merit of focusing on limitless sentient beings will also be limitless. As it is said in the Precious Garland: "The realm of sentient beings is limitless, and the benefit is the same." The Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior says: "Whether directly or indirectly, do nothing other than for the benefit of sentient beings. For the sake of sentient beings alone, dedicate everything to enlightenment." Thus it is said. The virtue that is embraced by the mind of enlightenment will not be exhausted even after the fruit has arisen, but will increase and expand more and more like a wish-fulfilling tree. As it is said in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior: "The tree of the mind of enlightenment always produces fruit, and it increases without exhaustion." The method or manner is: in the ultimate truth, all phenomena such as the object of dedication and the act of dedication are naturally pure and without object. But in the appearance of conventional truth, relying on this vast root of virtue, sentient beings
