The method of gathering. Learning to welcome and send off, and applying it to practice, there are five in total. First is purifying emptiness: the body should be in the seven-point posture, the key to speech is to keep the breath steady, the key to the mind is to abide in this if the nature is easy to tame, and if it is not easy to tame, then recite: Om Svabhava (Tibetan: ༀ་སྭ་བྷཱ་ཝ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ स्वभाव, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ svabhāva, Chinese literal meaning: Om, self-nature) and other mantras, through these causes, visualize that your ordinary body disappears like a rainbow dissolving into the sky, empty and vast, and then let the mind rest slightly in a state of non-objectivity. In this state, visualize that your body has only the outline of the outer skin, and there are no substantial things inside such as lungs and heart, but rather the nature of clear and transparent light, such as a white silk tent blown up with the mouth, or like a crystal bottle, the outside is transparent, the inside is also transparent, clear and unobstructed. Second is closing the nine doors: In such a clear heart, visualize a blue Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) syllable, about the size of a thumb. When it is clear, as the Hum syllable gradually dissolves, recite in the mouth: Hum Hum, in this way, from the Hum syllable in the heart, break off two Hum syllables downwards, located at the anus and urethra respectively; break off one Hum syllable, located at the navel; upwards, break off one Hum syllable, located at the uvula of the mouth; break off two Hum syllables, located at the two nostrils; break off two Hum syllables, located at the two eyes; break off two Hum syllables, located at the two ears; break off one Hum syllable, located at the various doors of the forehead, in this stage of practice, small obstacles can be avoided. Break off one more Hum syllable, and close the Brahma hole together, just like blocking a window with a stopper, visualize that the water inside will not seep out, and the wind outside will not enter, and then visualize that the Hum syllable in the heart disappears. If these doors are not closed, then the way of rebirth from which door at the time of death is: from the anus and urethra, rebirth into hell, from the urethra, rebirth into animals, from the navel, rebirth into the six desire realms, from the mouth, rebirth into hungry ghosts, from the nostrils, rebirth into yakshas, from the eyes, rebirth into humans, from the ears, rebirth into vidyadharas, that is, eaters of fragrance, from the forehead, rebirth into the gods of the form realm. Although it is said that there are nine doors of evil destinies, but here only eight are actually mentioned, why? Some lamas say that rebirth into the gods of the formless realm is from the Brahma hole at the top of the head, and the Brahma hole is the door to liberation. But our lineage's saying is that whether or not the key to this path is grasped, the various doors are not distinguished, as it is also said in the Vinaya Sutra: "From above to the formless realm, that is the path to bliss." Therefore, the light emitted from these Hum syllables illuminates the inside of the body.

In short, as if exhaled from the mouth, even the ultimate pores of the hair follicles are firmly sealed, so that until the feeling of discomfort in breathing in and out does not arise, meditate with clear and stable focus. Third, gathering the wind and mind: Thus, in the center of the vast empty body, free from obscurations and hindrances, the central channel stands straight, white on the outside and red on the inside, as thick or thin as a willow branch or a medium-sized arrow shaft. Its upper end, like an upturned conch shell, slightly expanded, pierces the aperture of Brahma at the crown of the head. The lower end gradually tapers, reaching about four fingers below the navel, possessing four characteristics. What are the four characteristics? Straight like a tree by the water, clear like a butter lamp, transparent like a glass bottle, thin like a lotus petal. For example, visualize it as a straight and transparent pillar of clear glass. When it becomes clear, at the upper end of the central channel at the crown of the head, visualize the syllable ཧཾ་ (Tibetan, हं, Ham, seed syllable), the nature of great bliss, facing downwards, about to drip a stream of white bodhicitta. At the lower end of the central channel, visualize a wind mandala in the shape of a crossed vajra as a support, light and moving. Above that, within the lower end of the central channel, visualize the essence of consciousness, a white bindu, the size of a Tibetan pea, white and shimmering, oily and round, light and moving. However, if one has not gained familiarity and stability with this, then meditation is meaningless. Therefore, from the beginning, without the doubt of whether it will become clear or not, visualize it step by step, without being distracted elsewhere, but focusing awareness on it, and practice. In this process, if ordinary thoughts suddenly arise, at the moment they arise, seize them with mindfulness, completely cut off the spread of thoughts, then roll them into a ball and place them on the bindu, dwelling without artifice or distraction. By practicing diligently in this way, various thoughts and fabrications will cease, the image of the bindu will become clear and bright, and the mind will be completely focused on it. If one can constantly remember it even during breaks between sessions, then the wind and mind are united. Fourth, training in welcoming and sending: On the crown of one's head, on a lion throne lotus moon cushion, visualize the essence of the root guru, the embodiment of all refuges, in the form of the Bhagavan, glorious Vajra.
