A Guide to Glorious Vajrasattva A Guide to Glorious Vajrasattva. The Great Translator Dharmashri. Om Svasti. I prostrate forever with all reverence at the feet of the glorious Vajra-holder Lama. To aid recollection, I write down this concise guide to the essential points of the profound path, the heart practice of Vajrasattva. As it says in the root text: "Having received empowerment, the supreme path of the essential, if you wish to train correctly..." Therefore, a suitable individual, whose mindstream has been ripened by empowerment and who possesses samaya, wishing to attain unsurpassed wisdom in this very life, should strive to practice this path. This has three parts: preliminaries, main practice, and conclusion. The first of these is: "Thinking well of the suffering of endless samsara, turn your mind away. Entering the common and uncommon paths with diligence, tame your own mind." Therefore, sincerely remembering the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity and the impermanence of death, and with faith in the way karma ripens, seeing the suffering of endless samsara as a pit of fire, take refuge in the Three Jewels, which is the root of all Dharma; generate loving-kindness and compassion focused on all sentient beings, which is the root of the Great Vehicle; generate the supreme mind of enlightenment; practice the hundred-syllable mantra to purify negativity and obscurations; accumulate merit with the mandala offering; and practice guru yoga, the root of blessings. Thus, complete the common and uncommon preliminaries. The main practice has three stages: generation, recitation, and completion. Therefore, the second, the main practice, has three general topics: the generation stage, the guide to mudra; the recitation stage, the guide to mantra; and the completion stage, the guide to clear light. The first general topic is: "First, in the center of the protection circle, generate the deity, invoke the wisdom being, and then dissolve..." Therefore, from the three causes, in the center of the protection circle, generate the mandala of the result, the support and supported, the samaya being. Invoke the wisdom being and dissolve it. This should be done according to the sadhana. Then, of the four objects of focus for stabilizing the mind, the first, focusing on the general form, is: "The parts of the body are completely perfect, like a reflection in a mirror. Meditate with clarity and without distraction." Therefore, from the seat to the crown of the head, clearly visualize all the parts of the body as complete, like a reflection in a mirror.

Focus single-pointedly on the clear and empty deity form, which is clearly visualized as an example of my image, without attachment. Meditate until the clear appearance of the coarse deity form arises and is not stolen by conceptual thoughts. Second, focusing the mind on specific aspects: As it says, "Having become familiar, from the parts of the body, down to the smallest ornaments, meditate on them clearly in sequence." Therefore, meditate by clarifying each of the parts of the body, such as the eyes, and the ornaments, such as the head ornaments, from coarse to fine, one by one, until the clear and detailed special appearance of each arises. Focus single-pointedly until then. Third, clinging to pride: As it says, "Having become familiar, hold the pride of thinking, 'I am Vajrasattva.'" With firm pride, meditate until the self-knowing appearance of recognizing oneself as Vajrasattva naturally arises. Fourth, pure recollection: As it says, "Having become familiar, the various mudras, for the sake of taming beings, with steadfast mind, pure recollection." This means that although the Dharmakaya of the Buddha is not tainted by the attachment of faces, hands, etc., for the sake of taming beings, the mudras are shown with shapes, colors, etc. that are in accordance with it. To indicate that there is no fault of negativity, the body color is white. To represent the single bindu, there is one head. To represent space and wisdom, there are two hands. To indicate that the benefit of beings is done through the means of skillful means and wisdom, the hand holds a vajra and bell. To indicate that one does not abide in the extremes of samsara and nirvana, the feet are bound in the vajra posture. To indicate that one enjoys the adornments of wisdom without abandoning desirable qualities, one is adorned with silk and precious ornaments, etc. For all the support and supported, apply pure recollection as much as possible and meditate single-pointedly. Thus, by striving to focus on various objects of mind, without relying on the imputations created by conceptual thoughts, it is essential to strive single-pointedly until the clear and empty self-appearance of the deity naturally arises. Then, in order to enhance the effectiveness of the generation stage, the practice of the subtle place is as follows: "Putting the three thousand worlds into a mustard seed, etc., before familiarity becomes stable, one should strive to meditate single-pointedly." This means that by visualizing the supporting palace inside a mustard seed and visualizing the supported deity as the size of three thousand great thousand worlds, the mustard seed does not become larger and the three thousand worlds do not become smaller, and sometimes
