The Essential Elucidation of the Practice of the Vidyadhara Thugthig. Written by Vidyadhara Gyurme Dorje. The Essential Elucidation of the Practice of the Vidyadhara Thugthig is hereby completed. Written by Vidyadhara Gyurme Dorje. The Essential Elucidation of the Practice of the Vidyadhara Thugthig is hereby completed. The very essence of all Buddhas, the dance of the mandala ocean, to the Lama who reveals everything, inseparable from the power of the skull garland, I prostrate. Here, entering into the stages of the outer, inner, and secret practices of the profound Dharma, the Vidyadhara Thugthig, is shown through the three: preliminaries, main practice, and conclusion. The first is: In a secluded and agreeable place that is auspicious and independent, sweep and clean. Inside the seat, under a clean space, write a right-turning Yungdrung (卍) with rice or white barley. Prepare all the necessary items such as boundary markers, medicine, food, etc., and everything that needs to be included within the boundary, in accordance with the common practice. Begin on an auspicious and favorable day, etc. If there is time, cut off the outer boundary two or three days before starting the actual practice. On the evening of that day, offer a torma to the local deities, entrusting them with activities, preceded by the self-generation that fills the space according to the Vidyadhara practice manual. Throw away the obstacle torma, strike the instruments, burn incense with gugul, etc., and dispel the obstacles with threats. Firmly establish the protective wheel. Begin on that night or the next morning. Encourage the mind with the difficulty of finding leisure and fortune and the impermanence of death, and with the single-pointed mind of definitely arising from samsara, practice refuge, bodhicitta, the meditation and recitation of the Hundred Syllable Mantra, and Guru Yoga, etc., as described in the instruction manual, dividing them into four or two sessions, etc., and according to the length of time, try to blend the mindstream with the Dharma. If possible, encourage other friends as well. Proclaim the Dharma, sprinkle water, release small clay figures, ransom lives, make tsatsas, etc., and accomplish as much as possible to increase the auxiliary conditions for virtuous deeds, which are necessary for maturing the mindstream, preventing obstacles, and quickly obtaining signs of accomplishment, etc. If there is not enough time and it cannot be accomplished, it will not become a fault of interruption. Then, on the evening session when entering the actual practice, perform the generation stage and recitation, and throw the torma to the earth deities and obstacles.

Ba, etc., are the same as before, so the inner boundary is closed. The erected mounds are regarded as the Four Great Kings, and offerings and tormas are offered, and prayers for activities, stability, auspicious words, etc., are made. Secondly, there are three: outer, inner, and secret. The first is: In the direction you are looking, on a clean platform where statues and other supports are arranged, arrange medicine, alcohol, necessities, and other offerings according to the practice, and replenish them every day. During the retreat, it is necessary to follow the previous visualization, without encountering new things, and without taking things in and out. Without calculating hopes and fears for happiness, sadness, good, or bad, with strong divine pride, and repeatedly reminding yourself at the end of each rosary recitation. Do not separate from devotion to the lama and compassion for sentient beings, keep your mind focused, and cultivate in this way, and sooner or later it will appear effortlessly and spontaneously. For example: Even if something happens before this recitation is finished, do not let it control you. If you are sick, then be sick. If you die, then die. You have taken countless births in the past, but they have all been meaningless. Now that you have the opportunity to practice such profound secret mantras, it is a rare good fortune. You must strive with such devotion and strong faith, so that there will be no obstacles and you will quickly attain accomplishments, so you must understand this. After that, accumulate merit through refuge, generating bodhicitta, the seven-branch offering, etc., in accordance with the common method, and then relax and abide naturally in the state of ultimate bodhicitta. In this state, by the power of reciting the Svabhava (Tibetan: སྭ་བྷཱ་ཝ, Sanskrit Devanagari: स्वभाव, Sanskrit Romanization: svabhāva, literal Chinese meaning: self-nature) mantra, all impure appearances are purified into the dharmadhatu. The appearance of mind and the sound of Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Hum) merge into the sky. In this state, an indestructible vajra protection wall is formed, and the flames of wisdom burn fiercely, pervading all around. Within it, the container world is completely manifested as a vast lotus-light palace. In the center, a lotus stem grows vigorously, and in the center of the eight petals, on the sun and moon cushion, the red Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Hum) of self-awareness burns, and the mind merges into it. From there, light radiates, awakening the primordial indestructible awareness of all sentient beings, becoming the nature of the vidyadhara lama, and all the light merges into the Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Hum). From that complete transformation, in an instant, the vidyadhara Padmasambhava, with a white body
