Just as it appears, firstly, in terms of the way of derivation and the way of explanation, there are two divisions. Among them, the first to be explained is the way of derivation. Without bondage, without liberation, the Buddha Dharma is spontaneously perfect from the beginning. To show this, various manifestations are made. From where does this treatise derive? Alas, from the Tathagatagarbha, it says: One's own conceptual thoughts, transformed by the power of karma, various bodies and enjoyments, places and sufferings, etc., are grasped as self and mine. No one is bound, there is no bondage, and there is nothing to be bound. By grasping the self with conceptual thoughts, one forcefully ties a knot in the sky. This treatise is derived from this. The reason for the derivation is: In the previous treatise, all sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha. Due to not realizing this, bondage and liberation appear. However, as the Manjushri Oral Instruction says: The dharmas of samsara are like a variegated rope, regarded as non-existent in nature. Thus, in essence, neither bondage nor liberation is established. After explaining this nature with metaphors, etc., because there is no bondage in essence, there is also no liberator. The meaning of self-awareness, spontaneously perfect as body and wisdom from the beginning, appearing in the equality of samsara and nirvana, is the Dharma realized by all Buddhas. In order to directly show it to the harmonious assembly, and in order to indirectly show it through the assembly that can understand, the reason for manifesting emanations is shown. Therefore, the treatise "Without bondage, without liberation, the Buddha Dharma is spontaneously perfect from the beginning. To show this, various manifestations are made" arises. From where does this treatise derive? Alas, the Dharma that is secret from the beginning, the nature is secret in various appearances, the essence is extremely secret, and it is very secret from other places. This treatise is derived from this.
