Regarding examination: Examining oneself from nearby, examining with astrology and divination, examining whether it is suitable to teach the Dharma, examining by vowing curses to the dakinis and Dharma protectors. Especially for use in activities, arguing with words, etc., examining in a way of scolding, if it does not turn back and is stable, then it should be accepted. As the Lamrim says: "Therefore, the Vajra holder, with distance, proximity, astrology, dakinis, with secret mantras, looks, shows, scolds, must examine the good one, not turning back, stable, with looking, entrusts whichever disciple into the hand." Therefore. If people filled with self-righteous pride come to listen to the Dharma, one should first say: "Such a great being like you, how could I dare to be presumptuous in front of you? You are a great wisdom." With these humble words, one should subdue them. If they want to listen no matter what, then they should be accepted. In short, one should be able to strive with faith and diligence in the meaning of the words of the Dharma. If one does not understand the Dharma, one will become an object of ridicule and contempt by others, and one also needs to fear a bad reputation. Third, regarding how to teach and listen to the Dharma to be taught, including determining the Dharma to be taught, and how to teach it. First, what is the Dharma to be taught? It is the Buddha's immaculate words, the key instructions of the commentaries explained by the wise, and the reasoning that arises in accordance with the two. As the 《Illusion Explanation Tantra Vajra Mirror》 says: "By measuring with the measure of the teachings and reasoning key instructions, one will understand the knowable." And as the great teacher Vimala says: "This lamp of the mind, the secret explanation, is determined by the teachings and key instructions reasoning." This is also the object of the three wisdoms. With the wisdom of hearing, the scriptures and commentaries contained in the three baskets and the four or six tantra divisions, that is, inner science, and as a branch to guide its disciples, such as "The princes do not learn, there is nothing that does not exist." Likewise, for other subduing sciences, namely grammar and logic, and receiving sciences, namely craftsmanship and medicine, etc., the common four sciences should also be mastered through teaching and listening. And, with the wisdom of thinking, the meaning of what is heard is well guarded, thereby determining.

Knowing the ground, and the meaning of how to know it, should be accomplished and practiced with the wisdom arising from meditation. Do not think that just one aspect of these is enough, but learn all the connections, which is called abiding in the holy Dharma. As it is said in the Compendium of Abhidharma: If asked, how does one abide in the Dharma with respect to all Dharmas? It is not by relying solely on the practice of meditation without relying on listening and thinking that one abides in the Dharma; nor is it by relying solely on the practice of listening and thinking without relying on meditation that one abides in the Dharma; but by relying on both and abiding in both that one abides in the Dharma. Also, as Nagarjuna said: Listening is what increases wisdom, and if there are both thinking and listening, then meditation will also arise from that. In short, the Dharma to be taught is also spoken by the teacher Buddha, explained by the wise, and determined by the accomplished ones through experience, and it is this Dharma that needs to be listened to and taught. Second, the manner of how to teach: The teacher should, as stated in the Sutra Requested by Sagaramati, recite the Dharani for Subduing the Maras, while, as stated in the White Lotus Sutra: In a clean and pleasing place, having thoroughly prepared and spread a wide seat, to the gathering of beings who are single-mindedly focused, closely reveal various kinds of words. Like this, in a wide place, sit on a lion throne adorned with decorations. As it is said in Entering the Wise Ones: With pure actions of the three doors, respectfully act for the sake of protecting the teachings. Thus, abandon the faults of the body, such as lying down and stretching the legs, and sit in a straight vajra posture with a peaceful and smiling countenance, just like the way the teacher Shakya King turned the wheel of Dharma. The sound of speech should also abandon faults such as being too weak, too loud, having various high and low tones, and repetition, and with the complete limbs of melody, in a clear, pure, and pleasant manner, so that the teacher can express easily, the listener can understand easily, whatever is said is appropriate, and however long it is said is suitable, and teach with the adornments of speech. Abandoning attachment, hatred, competitive mind, and other selfish clinging, and abiding in samadhi as explained below,

It is taught by the pure. The listener should also, as stated (in the scriptures), "Not teach the Dharma to the disrespectful. Not to those who are unwell, wearing hats, holding umbrellas, staffs, or weapons, or with their heads wrapped." Therefore, abandoning disrespectful behavior, sit on a very low seat, fully displaying the splendor of discipline, gazing with joyful eyes, as if drinking the nectar of words. As it is said, possessing the above behavior, one should listen with joy and delight, being complete with various conducive conditions for listening to the Dharma. As it is said in the 'Inconceivable Secrets', "In the world, Buddhas appear through a hundred paths, the human body is the essence of the assembly. Alas! Faith and listening to the Dharma, such things are difficult to find even in a hundred eons." So it is said. Initially, the student should first prostrate to the Lama, offering gifts and a mandala. In the 'Fifty Verses on the Guru', it says, "Kneeling with palms joined, desiring to listen, etc., make three requests." Therefore, after making three requests, the preliminary practice is to generate the mind of enlightenment. The main practice is to grasp the words and meaning of what is heard. The concluding practice is to remember the kindness and dedicate the merit to unsurpassed enlightenment. As for the Samadhi of teaching the Dharma, if the Dharma being taught is a Sutra, then one should teach and listen while viewing all appearances as illusory. If it is a Mantra Tantra, then one should first practice the protective circle, offer Tantric tormas, etc., and both teacher and student should visualize as they have done before. Or, as stated in the Guhyasamaja Tantra, "In the activities of Sutra meaning and ritual, always regard it as Vajra Dharma." And as stated in the Root Tantra of Magical Illusion, "In the palace of the wheel of speech." And so on, it is also acceptable for the teacher to visualize the Vajra speech as Amitabha, and the listener to visualize it as Ratnasambhava. In general, the Omniscient Great One (Mipham Rinpoche) said, "Also, thinking of oneself as Manjushri, imagine the rays of Dharma light striking the heart." Therefore, one should visualize the teacher as being clear as Manjushri, and from his mouth emanate rays of Dharma light, striking the student's heart, dispelling the darkness of ignorance, and causing the lotus of wisdom to bloom, thus contemplating and teaching and listening. The essential instruction on the method of teaching is, if it is a Sutra, then it possesses the five perfections, if it is a Shastra, then it possesses the five numerical beginnings, and the commonality between Sutras and Shastras is that they possess the essential points of summarizing the meaning, as well as words and meaning.
