Please protect me! Thus, I join my palms in supplication. Furthermore, in the verses of the "Drum Sound Chapter," it is said: "Giving up my wealth to protect the body, giving up wealth and body to protect life, giving up wealth, body, and life, as well as everything, here I protect the Dharma." As it is said, one should strive to learn. Fourth, determining the nature: the essence of Bodhicitta, its divisions, their respective boundaries, the cause of Bodhicitta, its benefits, its faults, and the differences in rituals, etc. First, the essence is: wanting to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others. As it is said in the Ornament of Clear Realization: "The arising of Bodhicitta is for the sake of others, wanting to attain perfect enlightenment." And, as it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "The arising of a mind possessing two meanings." As it is said. Second, the divisions are: wanting to attain Bodhi for the sake of others is aspiration, and being in the process of going to Bodhi for the sake of others is engagement, like wanting to go with thought and being in the process of going with action. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Bodhicitta, in brief, should be known as two types: the aspiring Bodhicitta and the engaging Bodhicitta. Just as there is a difference between wanting to go and actually going, so the wise should gradually understand the difference between these two." And, from the perspective of conventional and ultimate, there are also two types, as it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: "By the difference of conventional and ultimate, Bodhicitta has two types." Therefore, the conventional Bodhicitta is that which arises primarily in ordinary beings, with external sentient beings as the object, and the ultimate Bodhicitta is that which arises primarily in the lineage of the noble ones, with the mind itself as the object. Therefore, the aspiring Bodhicitta can arise merely from wanting to attain Bodhi, and the engaging Bodhicitta is the vows that arise from the ritual. Both of these are included in the conventional Bodhicitta, and the ultimate Bodhicitta arises from the power of habituating its nature. Third, regarding the boundaries, the aspiring mind is: from the moment of first generating Bodhicitta to the small position of the accumulation path before taking vows, and the engaging mind is: from taking the engaging vows to the end of samsara, established by "wanting to go and being in the process of going," etc. If the engaging mind is solely the path of the noble ones,

It is uncertain whether one has the (Bodhisattva) vow, because the basis of the (Bodhisattva) vow is a person who has already attained the state of an ordinary being, and it is impossible to commit a root downfall after taking the entering (Bodhisattva) vow. Fourth, the causes of generating bodhicitta are: faith directed towards the Buddha, compassion directed towards sentient beings, and the desire to attain bodhicitta after knowing its benefits. These three give rise to bodhicitta. The Ornament of the Sutras states: "The power of friends, the power of causes, and the power of roots, the power of hearing, the power of habituating to virtue, from these arise the unstable and the stable. It speaks of the stable bodhicitta of others." This means that relying on virtuous friends and listening to the Dharma, the first cause of generating stable aspirational bodhicitta arises. Habituation to virtue, the awakening of the seed of the cause, and the arising of the root of compassion are the causes of the stable arising of entering bodhicitta. Fifth, the benefits of generating bodhicitta are: aspirational bodhicitta surpasses all merit, including the bodhicitta of hearers and solitary realizers. If one does not commit a root downfall after entering (Bodhisattva) bodhicitta, even if one falls asleep or becomes distracted, merit will not be interrupted. The Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life states: "From this moment on, even when asleep or distracted, the power of merit will never cease, and will increase immensely, like the sky." And so on, only a portion of the infinite benefits have been mentioned before. Sixth, the faults of not generating bodhicitta are: mainly, one will continuously fall into samsara and the lower realms. No matter how hard one tries to practice the Dharma, one will deviate towards the hearers and solitary realizers. Although falling into hell is not a permanent obstacle to attaining Buddhahood, falling into the state of a hearer or solitary realizer arhat is an obstacle to attaining unsurpassed perfect enlightenment for countless eons. Seventh, the differences in the ritual are: the one transmitted from Lord Maitreya is known as the Mind-Only school's ritual, and the one transmitted from the noble Manjushri is known as the Middle Way school's ritual. These are explained through the differences in the object to be taken, the differences in the person who takes it, the differences in the ritual of taking, and the differences in protecting it without degeneration. These should be understood from the sutras and treatises of the Great Vehicle. Here, it is done according to the Middle Way school's ritual, which is divided into extensive, intermediate, and concise. The extensive

The extensive (ritual): At the beginning of the previously mentioned ritual, connect the nature and classification of the mind of enlightenment mentioned in the stage of determining self-nature as a link, and fully explain how to protect what has been obtained from being lost, and finally dedicate the roots of virtue, etc. The medium (ritual): Perform the preliminary practices, such as supplication, refuge, and the seven-branch offering. The main practice is the same as before. The subsequent practice is to rejoice in the virtues of others, and then make the dedication. The abbreviated (ritual): After making the seven-branch offering, from "Until the essence of enlightenment is reached," etc., and "As the previous Sugatas," etc., after reciting as before, rejoice in oneself and others as before, and it can also be accomplished. In any of the above cases, in the end, recite "By this merit may I quickly attain, the state of omniscience," etc., and "May the precious mind of enlightenment, arise where it has not yet arisen," etc., and "May all sentient beings have happiness," etc. In this world, for sentient beings who are constantly wandering with inverted and confused thoughts, guided by immeasurable compassion towards enlightenment, in order to be able to recite the ritual of generating the mind of enlightenment, this arrangement is dedicated to all sentient beings to attain enlightenment. This is the ritual of generating the mind of enlightenment of the Mahayana Madhyamaka school, called "The Excellent Path of the Victorious Ones." Because in our own tradition, in the rituals of bestowing vows and the extensive stages of the path, it was only collected as a guide, and was not arranged as a ritual that could be recited, therefore, in order to benefit future learners, I originally intended to write it. Recently, due to the encouragement of the faithful benefactor Orgyen Namdrol, and the auspicious signs seen in dreams as a cause, Gyurme Dorje (Immutable Vajra), who only holds the name of a Bodhisattva, wrote it in the Lhabrang Chokhor Lhunpo of Orgyen Mindroling Monastery.
