The path and the liberation path are the same in meaning. There are nine divisions: from the liberation path of the second bhumi to the liberation path of the tenth bhumi. Secondly, there are three aspects: the subject of the dharma, the dharma to be established, and the analysis of the reason. Firstly, here, the directly shown liberation paths are the four liberation paths of the Shravaka, Pratyekabuddha, Bodhisattva, and Buddha. However, the main subject to be explained is the liberation path of the Mahayana. Secondly, the sutra says, "When the fruit is completely pure, the form is also completely pure," and "When the fruit is pure, form, etc., are pure." What does this mean? When the liberation path itself is completely purified by its own inherent defilements, its object, form, etc., are also completely purified by their own inherent defilements; and when the nature of its object, form, etc., is seen, it is also completely purified by its own inherent defilements. Thirdly, the sutra says, "Thus, the fruit is completely pure, and the form is completely pure. These two are not two, and cannot be divided," etc. Here it says, "These two are not different, and are said to be pure because they cannot be analyzed." What does this mean? The Mahayana meditation path, the liberation path, is completely purified by its own inherent defilements, and when the nature of its object, form, etc., is seen, the difference of being purified by its own inherent defilements, in terms of its own characteristic, the substance is different, and in terms of its common characteristic, the negations are different, and it cannot be analyzed in a logically consistent way. Thirdly, there are two aspects: the definition and the divisions. Firstly, the definition is: the uncontaminated, uninterrupted path, the liberation path that is liberated from the seeds of what is to be abandoned by its own nature, and the qualities that have become any of the cessation truths. This and the fruit of the ascetic life are the same in meaning. Secondly, there are four types of purity: Shravaka, Pratyekabuddha, Bodhisattva, and Buddha. The definitions are, in order: the liberation path in the continuum of the Hinayana practitioner and any of the cessation truths that have become; the liberation path in the continuum of the Madhyama practitioner and any of the cessation truths that have become; the liberation path in the continuum of the noble Bodhisattva and any of the cessation truths that have become; the qualities included in any of the abandonment and realization of abandoning the two obscurations. In the short commentary on the Ornament of Clear Realization - Utterly Clear, the explanation of the Path Knowledge, is the second.
