The glory of the good. May it spread as a spring where the lotus blooms to the delight of all, through the wisdom of a bright young man seeking meaning. When the excellent fruit of innate confidence is nurtured by the warmth and moisture of extensive learning, Even the lord of the heavens would wish to gaze upon the wonder of the nodding heads of well-spoken grain. A slender body of alternating prose and verse, adorned with the elegance of precious ornaments of sound and meaning, When greeted by the melody of poetic song, Would even those detached from desire not be seduced by attachment? When this mirror of well-spoken words clarifies the form of the countless knowable objects, One desires to gaze into the pool of village slang (dregs), falling into a state of bewilderment. The pure essence of the teachings, with its supremely stable root, The youthful, swaying branches of decisive conclusions, The sweet words like flowers, heavy with the fruits of good meaning, This unprecedented, all-encompassing tree is wondrous. Filled with all aspects of meaning, Adorned with the marks of wild animals in its composition, The white light of well-spoken words, full of joy, The unprecedented moon of commentary has risen. At that time, the darkness of ignorance will be dispelled, And along with its removal, from within the lotus of intelligence, As it blooms, the wise and happy ones will worship at its crown. The great ocean of wondrous knowledge, Having drunk deeply, in the cool shade of well-spoken words, To spread it in all directions, It is accomplished in the realm of the victorious Vajra. By this virtue, may the precious life of the Victor's teachings Be an unchanging, unsurpassed agent, A diamond fortress free from destruction and decay, May it remain steadfast as a protector for those who desire liberation. The pure essence of the teachings, a treasure beyond price, A spring of wish-fulfilling joy, radiating the light of benefit and happiness, By the virtue of offering to the summit of the victory banner of commentary, May the glory of the Buddha's teachings increase and flourish. This commentary on the Mirror of Poetry, called "Radiant Light Illuminating the Essence of the Teachings," was written with the thought that it might be a reminder for myself and also benefit others, and upon the urging of the venerable Khenpo Jowo Rinpoche Kunga Tsultrim Gyatso, the holder of monastic discipline, and also encouraged by the command of the speech emanation, Ngawang Kunzang Dorje, the supreme incarnate guide of beings, the fifth of Peling, and recently, by the exceptionally long-sighted wisdom of Taklung Tulku Orgyen B.

Due to the repeated urging with great enthusiasm by Tenzin Dondrup, relying on the kindness of the Kyabgon Lama Terton Chokyi Gyalpo (referring to Minling Khenchen Rinpoche) brothers, the embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times, having a slight inclination towards various fields of inner and outer knowledge, the poet of the snowy land, Shakya Bhikshu Pema Gyurme Gyatso, Mipham Namgyal Dorje Palzangpo, at the age of twenty, in the beginning of the Rabjung year of the Sun's Protector (Fire Rabbit year), on the second day of the white side of the moon, at the auspicious time of dawn when the great sage constellation plays with the joy of early summer, the writing composed at the Ladrang Dharma Chakra Sumeru of the great Dharma monastery Ogyen Mindroling, was handwritten by myself. May this also become a cause for the precious teachings of the Victorious One to flourish and remain for a long time!
