In India, among the "ten sciences" known to scholars, it belongs to one of the five minor sciences. It is also said that if one knows prosody, one will not be confused by verses. Therefore, "prosody" is the name of the subject matter, and "Source of Jewels" is named after a metaphor or the author's name. Third, it begins with the auspicious letter "ༀ" (Tibetan, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Om), which is an auspicious expression to signify the complete accomplishment of the work. As it is said in the Vajra Peak Sutra: "What is ༀ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ॐ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, literal Chinese meaning: Om)? It is supreme, bestowing wealth, splendor, and auspiciousness, possessing various forms of good fortune, and is the meaning of vow and auspiciousness." Homage to the Lord of Speech (Saraswati)! This is the translator paying homage to Manjushri before translating. Second, regarding the content of the text, it is divided into three parts: the branch of entering the treatise—offering praise, the explanation of the meaning of the treatise to be entered, and the dedication of merit after obtaining it. The first part is: The Victorious One, the perfectly complete Buddha Shakyamuni, is like the sun, because it is the nature of supreme light. For example, just as the sun can dispel the darkness of the external night, the darkness of the night that obscures the true nature of the inner mind is ignorance. For those who are blinded by ignorance and separated from the virtuous friends with clear eyes, the Buddha can well open the eyes of their wisdom and cause the light of correct wisdom to increase, therefore he is the inner sun. Therefore, at the beginning of writing the treatise, the master first pays homage. After paying homage in this way, why write the treatise? This is to be able to easily understand the differences in the use of words in the poems made by inner Buddhists and outer heretics. As it is said in the auto-commentary: "In order to be able to distinguish one's own poems from those of others, the treatise is written." The reason for writing is that previously there was the root verse of prosody written in reddish-yellow by Dharmashekha, and the examples made by Gyalwa Lha (Jina). Although they have completed their works, they are very lacking in the eight qualities, and so on. And this treatise has all eight qualities, and also uses the root verse to illustrate. Therefore, this treatise is even more superior than that one.

Thus, having refuted the Sutras made by "Red Yellow" and others, it is considered that a treatise should be composed, which surpasses them with eight qualities, and a vow is made to compose it, along with the necessity of stating the reasons. So, what are these eight qualities? In the commentary, it says: "Brief and concise, the verses are clear, the Sutras' metaphors are well cited, the Prastara style is unmixed, the words and meanings are both excellent and diligently explained." It also says: "The final pause brings rest, names and the like possess qualities, general and specific meanings are abundant, the language is fluent and easy to understand, in both Vritta (Sanskrit) and Jati (Sanskrit), Jati (Sanskrit) is established with four letters." Thus. If, as mentioned above, the metaphors made by the Sutras are not counted as eight qualities, then is there a fault of not having all eight qualities there? No, because it is evident that previously, after adding six wonderful combinations, they were counted as eight, because (the Sutras) when refuting the Red Yellow School, also did not demonstrate wonderful combinations, as it is said. Explaining the meaning of the treatise to be entered The basis for composing poetry - verses Secondly, explaining the meaning of the treatise to be entered, it is divided into: the basis for composing poetry - verses, and the actual composition of poetry based on it. The first part is divided into: what is said in the scriptures, and what is known to the masters of poetics. First, a verse is not necessarily only four lines, as it is said in the Abhidharmasamuccaya: "A verse has: one line, two lines, three lines, four lines, five lines, six lines, etc." Thus, it is said from one line to six lines, there are no seven lines, and from eight lines onwards, it is counted as two verses. Second, the definition of a verse is: language that is divided into four lines and composed of four lines. Verse, śloka (Sanskrit), and complete sentence, etc., have the same meaning, only different names. Therefore, in the view of poets, a verse must be composed of four lines, so continuous and cumulative, etc., are also verses of long lines. Thus, it is also said in the Manjushri Root Tantra: "The continuous verses are verses." Some people think that continuity is divided into two types, divided and undivided, which is unreasonable, because the undivided is prose. As it is said in the Kavyadarsha: "Without lines"
