Hereafter, I will briefly describe the order of listening to the sacred Dharma. In general, establishing the true nature of all phenomena as they are is the wisdom of hearing. Moreover, it is necessary to ascertain through contemplation and accomplish the desired fruit through meditation. Therefore, the two wisdoms of contemplation and meditation also depend on the wisdom of hearing. Because without hearing, one cannot contemplate or meditate. As it is said, "Wisdom is supreme, its basis is hearing, likewise, hearing is supreme." Nagarjuna also said, "Hearing is what increases wisdom, and if contemplation and the two are present, then from that, meditation will also arise excellently, and from that, one will obtain the supreme accomplishment." Just like that. Although this great being has attained a completely pure vision of all knowable phenomena, he does not need as much hearing as someone who abides in the state of an ordinary being. However, in order to accomplish the eye-faculty of those who have entered the teachings, he does not shrink from seeking hearing. At that time, no matter how great the harm and fear, he does not turn back or waver. Even if he has reached the other shore of scriptures and instructions, he does not become complacent, but strives again. For example, the merchant Nor Rabten's son Nor Zang from the city of the Source of Happiness went to all the regions of the south to seek the Dharma; and the Bodhisattva Sadāprarudita, when seeking the Perfection of Wisdom, sold his own body and went to the city of Fragrant Groves and relied on the Bodhisattva Dharmodgata, etc. Not being satisfied with the sacred Dharma is the amazing liberation of the great saints. Therefore, in the Ornament for Clear Realization, when explaining the complete training of the third ground, it says, "And non-satiety with hearing." As it is said, for the inconceivable categories of Dharma, just as one has heard before, one will surely hear again in the future. Moreover, he will abandon the pride of great status and lineage, and examine the source of the Dharma that is rare and has a lineage. Without considering the high or low status of the place where one is temporarily listening to the Dharma, he respectfully listens. Regarding the unbiased teachings, he does not accept or reject them with a pure view. And those hearings are not just

Not only that, but he also diligently engaged in using the wisdom born of thought, guiding definitive understanding through meticulous and discerning contemplation, and taking it as his own responsibility. In short, if we measure the rise and fall of the teachings by the standards of previous times, many teachings have declined, but he held a grand aspiration in his heart, thinking that he must now obtain all the teachings that exist. Therefore, he listened extensively, with reliable sources, and without confusing the various different viewpoints, he thoroughly researched each one, thereby determining the gains and losses of listening and contemplation. Regarding the dharmas that he knew, he also practiced and cultivated them from the perspective of acceptance and rejection, thereby accomplishing the three, listening, contemplation, and meditation, on a single seat. Not content with merely understanding a part, but truly abiding in the true Dharma, he became an unsurpassed state worthy of praise. As it is said in the Abhisamayalankara, "How do dharmas abide in the Dharma? Without relying on listening and thinking, merely relying on the practice of meditation does not abide in the Dharma; without relying on meditation, merely relying on the practice of listening and thinking does not abide in the Dharma; relying on both and abiding in both, one abides in the Dharma." And so on, as it is widely said, he put it into practice, therefore seeing the truth of how things truly exist, and understanding all knowable dharmas clearly and without confusion, thereby gaining control over the sovereignty of the Dharma. Growing up gradually and entering the Buddhist order, how did he engage in listening and studying?
