A brief account of cultural history: A brief account of cultural history: The art of craftsmanship. Now, let's briefly discuss cultural history. As stated by Maitreya, "If one has not mastered the five fields of knowledge, even the supreme beings will not attain omniscience." The five major fields of knowledge are: grammar and logic, which refute evil speech; craftsmanship and medicine, which make the wise believe; and inner knowledge, which is for self-understanding. First, it is now time to explain the art of craftsmanship, because all cultures are included in the category of craftsmanship. The physical movement related to the mind is called body craftsmanship, and the expression of speech is mainly called speech craftsmanship. It is said that what is not related to either of these two, but is only controlled by the thought of the mind, is called mind craftsmanship. It is said that there is no craftsmanship that is not included in these three. Now, generally, painting and sculpture are called craftsmanship. So, how did the tradition of painting arise in the world? In the past, a human king named 'Jigthul' ruled the country according to Dharma, and people's lives increased to 80,000 years. At that time, a Brahmin's son died untimely. The king took the Brahmin to the King Yama and asked him to return his son. Yama said, "His karma is exhausted, so I cannot return him." In the end, they fought each other, and the whole world was frightened. Brahma intervened and drew a picture of the Brahmin's son as if he were alive, and then handed it over to the Brahmin, settling the dispute. Later, the king went to Brahma to ask about the method of painting. Brahma praised, "The king of mountains is Mount Sumeru, the king of egg-born creatures is the Garuda, the king of humans is the king, and likewise, painting is the king of art." He prophesied the divine craftsman Vishvakarman, who is said to be good at creating special crafts. Generally, during the time when Shakyamuni Buddha was alive, the tradition of painting was that the embodied heart image sent the Buddha's image as a gift to Udyana. The daughter returned the gift with a painting on cloth of flower vines.
