Ajatashatru also sensed it and came. After inviting the relics, when seven days had passed, they made offerings and cried out, saying: Please give us a share of the bone relics and the relics. The yakshas said: The relics belong to us, go back. The gods and humans were very agitated. It would be good to give a share, but if not, we will seize it, thus vowing to resist. The powerful yakshas divided the fourfold army and began to fight with the gods and humans. When they returned, the relics rose into the sky and resided in front of the stupa decorated with the yaksha's headdress. Upagupta himself took it, and the Brahmin Brevo, an emanation of Manjushri, and those of the same lineage circled the four dangerous places. To the army of yakshas, etc., he said: Wise ones, the Blessed One praised forbearance, do not fight for the relics. I will give the relics separately. After saying this, the armies saw the relics ascend into the sky. Let it be so, Upagupta and the Brahmin divided it into eight parts without dispute. The first part was given to the grass yakshas, the second to the evil yakshas, the third to the king's son Luka, the fourth to the loud-sounding king, the fifth to the Brahmin of Jambudvipa, the sixth to the Shakyas, the seventh to the Licchavis, and the eighth to Ajatashatru. The right lower jaw tooth was given to the Holder of Words king, and the left to the Kalinga king. The yakshas built deceptive cities in the land of grass, evil, and the son Luka. Krodha and the Rakshasa Nagas in the Lion Isle, the Brahmin Fearless in Jambudvipa, the Shakyas in Kapilavastu, the Licchavis in Vaishali, and Ajatashatru built stupas in the Light Groves, made offerings, and established festivals, hence it is known as the eight relic stupas. The grass yakshas gave the ashes from the cremation of the relics to the Brahmin Nyagrodha, hence in the country of Nyagrodha there was an ash stupa, and the eight boxes containing the relics.
