Rendawa asked: 'What are the differences between the conceptualization of grasping at the real and the conceptualization of grasping at the imputed?' Answer: 'The first is: the afflictive obscurations to be abandoned by the path of seeing in the Mahayana, and the grasping that apprehends any of its respective objects—Pudgala (梵文:Pudgala,补特伽罗,Person or sentient being) and phenomena—as truly existent, is the same as the realization to be abandoned by the path of seeing in the Mahayana. The second is: the grasping that apprehends any of its respective objects—Pudgala and phenomena—as imputedly existent, and clings to the mere appearance of imputation, is the same as the realization to be abandoned by the path of seeing in the Mahayana. What is primarily abandoned by the path of meditation in the Mahayana is the cognitive obscuration, as the master Simhabhadra said: 'Having completely exhausted all the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, in order to abandon the cognitive obscurations, one should diligently apply oneself to meditation.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
