Youth passed by without notice. Later, due to the competitive environment in the monastery, I spent my days indulging in the pursuit of monastic wealth and the eight worldly concerns. It is regrettable to have wasted a precious human life. If one can contribute to the Buddhist teachings and leave behind accomplishments, I believe there would be no regrets. Not accumulating merit is like deceiving oneself. As for someone as lazy as myself, is it beneficial or not to the path of practice? If it is beneficial, I am still willing to make efforts. If it is not beneficial, then it is no different from a parrot mimicking sounds, without any real meaning. Therefore, I am specifically asking you for clear guidance. Very well. With a foundation of pure morality and a motivation unmixed with personal desires, practicing through the three means of abandoning, reading, and action is praised by the Victorious Ones as being in accordance with the conduct of noble beings. Therefore, if you serve the Buddhist teachings in a proper manner with a good motivation, it will fundamentally benefit the ultimate path. If the field (referring to motivation), thought, and action are all pure, then even temporary, superficial recitations and meditations will be far more effective. Striving with diligent effort that is complete with the stages of generation and completion is like a bird with large wings flying in the sky. Hearing, contemplating, and explaining the Dharma, as well as engaging in Buddhist activities, are like riding a horse or walking on foot; although the destination is the same, the efficiency, obstacles, and presence or absence of difficulties are vastly different. Considering that there is no authentic Dharma anywhere these days, such superficial Buddhist activities seem unlikely to transform sins into a collection of virtues. However, if one strives to prevent the teachings from disappearing even as a fading shadow, the benefits will far exceed those of when the authentic Dharma was present, as many scriptures unanimously agree. Nowadays, in general, Buddhism is reduced to mere superficial forms. In particular, the teachings of the practice lineage of the Karma Kagyu appear to be inevitably declining, so even a small contribution will be of great benefit. Therefore, I am also making efforts, even if I neglect recitation and meditation, to organize the teachings and texts of the Marpa lineage, as well as the commentaries on the Inner Tantras and the Three Series, because the empowerments and transmissions of these lineages are nearing extinction. For those teachings whose transmissions have already been severed, I am striving to restore them with great difficulty. However, the power of demons is strong, evil spirits are skillful, and people's enthusiasm for the Dharma is small, to the extent that contributions to the white side (referring to virtuous Dharma) of the Buddhist teachings are seen as obstacles. Moreover, due to unfavorable times, most efforts are difficult to succeed, and even if they do, the results are small, and it seems difficult to achieve the intended goals.
