Discourse Arising from Establishing a View, Chapter Five: A Profusion of Logic and Reason's Flowers Discourse Arising from Establishing a View, Chapter Five: A Profusion of Logic and Reason's Flowers This is the chapter entitled "Discourse Arising from Establishing a View, Chapter Five: A Profusion of Logic and Reason's Flowers." Namo Manjushriye. To the supreme being of glorious Shakya, And the inseparable, gentle protector, the Lama's feet, Who shows the path of liberation without error, To him, all things bow down. Just as, relying on the splendor of summer, A mindless lotus generates joy, So, relying on the words of the holy, The ignorant generate joy for the wise. Whoever knows what becomes wise, That one truly liberates, Sutras, the Lama's instructions, And wisdom contemplate the Dharma without darkness. With the distinctions of the three vehicles' lineages, Entering into whatever one is inclined to, First, it is necessary to establish the view. Hearing is a friend to that, Do not boast with mere fragments. Then, thinking and meditating as well, Abandoning the mind of ignorant attachment, Knowing the order of precedence and gaining stability, Begin practice in accordance with one's capacity. With the profound differences of the Sutra and Tantra paths, Although there are many ways to attain the result, There is no passing beyond the result of the one vehicle. The object of hearing is what is to be known, That is encompassed by truth, tenets, And reasoning and emptiness. Whenever one studies the scriptures, In order to purify intelligence completely, Having determined the particular diseases of outsiders, Know the views and tenets of outsiders, And the establishment of the teachings. Relying on names and words, One will see the suchness of Dharma, Relying on names and words, the Dharma to be known, Measure with sound and logical reasoning. Whatever is the object of expression and knowledge, The consciousness that possesses the object of expression, Must indicate the characteristics of general and particular. Establish with direct perception and inference. With pledges, subject, property of the subject, examples, etc., Compose statements of proof and begin refutations. Distinguish between the correct and the apparent, Consider phenomena, exclusion of others, contradictions, and connections. Extend pervasion, reasons, faults, thoughts, and consequences. When analyzing by understanding the general meaning, Gradually realizing the subtle points, The wisdom that discriminates Dharma arises. When the view is established, One becomes a great lion among speakers. In order to show the profound Dharma, The world
