Having gained unwavering confidence, determining it to be a demonic obstacle, and diligently practicing, if one still clings to joy and pride at this time, even good medicine will turn into poison. Therefore, one should neither accept nor reject anything. Now, entering the actual branches, there are four points: the manner in which miraculous powers arise, the degree of completion, the method for pacifying temporary obstacles, and the pith instructions for never regressing. The first point, although much can be said, is summarized into three: reality, experience, and dreams. Reality refers to others striking, scolding, and other disrespectful actions, praising, respecting, and extolling virtues, as well as tigers, wolves, and others displaying terrifying appearances, and also hail, strong winds, leper corpses, and so on. Experience is ubiquitous, including fear, panic, and the appearance of fire, water, wind, earthquakes, flesh-eating rakshasas, and so on, which are too numerous to mention. Furthermore, there are prophecies from gods, lamas, non-humans, and so on. Dreams are immeasurable and cannot be listed here individually. In short, all of these are merely manifestations of the mind and do not exist elsewhere. The second point is the degree of completion. Temporary completion refers to the pacification of miraculous powers, resulting in physical and mental well-being, clear awareness, and respect and prostration from humans and non-humans, and so on. Ultimate completion refers to knowing that even if something appears, it is a manifestation of the mind; even if one knows, one knows it is a manifestation of the mind; generating faith in the lama and the Buddha; generating compassion for all sentient beings; and ultimately, generating in one's being the separation from all elaboration. This is the measure of completion. The third point is the method for pacifying temporary obstacles. For those of superior capacity, obstacles will not arise. For those of middling capacity, even if they arise, they will disappear upon realizing their lack of inherent existence. For those of lesser capacity, when first practicing, no matter whether others create obstacles to practice in a good or bad way, one should recognize this and not be swayed by it. If fear or other things arise, ask oneself what one is afraid of. Is one afraid of earth, water, fire, wind, or space? If one is afraid of these, then where is there a place where these elements do not exist? From the ultimate point of view, even the Buddha does not see things that harm the mind. From the relative point of view, it is like an illusionist using illusions to trick illusions.

If it is thought to be harmful, it is eliminated through experience. If even without experience, there is doubt and apprehension, then from the beginning, one should not wander in graveyards, but strive to do good deeds. In general, obstacles are eliminated simply by the above-mentioned offering of food, etc. The fourth is the instruction on non-retrogression: it is sufficient to rely solely on mindfulness. That is, if one regards evil as merely evil, one will regress; if one runs away out of fear of circumstances, one will regress; if one regards temporary suffering as difficult, one will regress. Therefore, knowing that everything is without inherent existence and not being controlled by conceptual thoughts, one will not regress. In general, all that has not gone on the path of the Buddha is wrong, and if one goes on the path, one will not regress. Some say that pressing with the hand stirs up the spring, cutting down trees, splitting rocks, and so on. For the possessed, no matter what one does, there is no miraculous power, and if numbness and pain occur again, apart from doing that, the yogi should not do it for no reason in any way, because if one does, one violates the bodhisattva vows. Now is the third part, concerning the subsequent samaya and benefits. The samaya is: in general, one should not violate the vows of individual liberation and the bodhisattva vows. The temporary samaya is: at the time of cutting, there should be no worship of gods, no beating of ghosts, no expectation of nirvana, no doubt about samsara, and one should be free from all conceptual thoughts. The benefits are: In the Compendium it is said: Whoever reverently practices the Prajnaparamita, whoever holds and realizes it with reverence, poison, weapons, fire, and water cannot harm him, and demons and their retinues will not find an opportunity. Thus it is said. The ultimate practice of the Prajnaparamita Chod, compiled by the venerable lamas and integrated with one's own experience, is composed by Rangjung Dorje in the mountain retreat of Lhading. (14b4) Here are the verses: Alas! Beings of the degenerate age, the meaning of the Prajnaparamita is the pacification of elaboration, and one does not engage in grasper and grasped. Therefore, the meaning of Chod is, as I have understood it after investigation: the three, outer, inner, and secret; the outer non-dharma and unwholesome, such as killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, idle talk, divisive speech, lying, and harsh speech.
