The Fourteenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury, Outline of the Great Collection of Chö Teachings The Fourteenth Volume of the Instructions Treasury Outline of the Great Collection of Chö Teachings Herein is the Outline of the Great Collection of Chö Teachings. Composed by Je Rangjung Dorje. Homage to the Mother of Transcendent Knowledge! This Great Collection of Chö Teachings, the Severance of Māras, has three parts: the meaning of the introduction, the main body, and the conclusion. The introduction has three parts: paying homage, stating the title of Chö, and briefly indicating joy. The second, the meaning of the main body, has two parts: briefly indicating māras, and explaining in detail. This has three parts: not specifically discussing the distinctions of the four māras, indicating through examples, and indicating freedom from examples. The first has four: the māra of obstacles, the māra of no obstacles, the māra of joy and sorrow, and the māra of pride. The first has two: identifying the māra of obstacles arising from oneself, and as for the form, establishing its essence as emptiness. The unobstructed has two: identifying the arising sensations, and indicating that realization arises as dharmadhatu, self-liberated. Joy and sorrow have two: briefly indicating joy and sorrow, and explaining in detail. Unobstructed This has two: common and supreme. The first has two: in a haunted place, if a ghost clings to qualities, it is a māra of the path, and indicating that qualities are like a dream. The supreme has two: indicating protectors as māras of the path, and indicating mind-made māras. The first has two: identifying the māra, and if one knows the symbolic meaning, one is liberated. Identifying has two: a brief indication of the supreme, and an elaborate explanation free from elaboration. The second has four: in the self-arising of view and meditation, there is no viewer or object of view, and all meditation is without a meditator. When conduct arises, if one's own view is established, and conduct is established, then conduct is one's own play, and experience transcends the mind. Indicating mind-made māras has two: desire and the supreme māras are all māras of results, and if one realizes that body, speech, and mind are one's own nature, then there is nothing to accomplish. The māra of pride has two: briefly indicating the māra, and explaining in detail. That has three: The māra of obstacles is gathered into pride, the māra of no obstacles is gathered into pride, and the māra of joy and sorrow is gathered into pride. The first has two: actual

If one cannot perceive phenomena with the eye of wisdom, then all things will appear as demons. Even if one truly understands, if one understands it as being separate from the root, then everything will be regarded as liberation. The second part is divided into five aspects: identifying the five unobstructed demons arising from the root of arrogance; if the object of arrogance (སྙེམས་བྱེད།,梵文天城体:Māna,梵文罗马拟音:Māna,English literal meaning: Arrogance) , hatred, is self-liberated, then one can be liberated from the six realms and realize the five wisdoms; furthermore, illustrating fearlessness through metaphors; even if one understands, if one does not cut it off, one will be bound; if one cuts off arrogance, one can become a Buddha. The third part is divided into two aspects: the common and the supreme. The common is further divided into two aspects: if one is attached to accomplishments, then happiness and suffering are demons; if one is not attached, then it is an ornament. ⁽17f3⁾ Emaho! The supreme is divided into two aspects: manifesting the three bodies as demons, and if one recognizes the nature of samsara, then there will be no arrogance. The second general meaning, explained through metaphors, is divided into five aspects: explaining through metaphors, view, practice, conduct, and result. The first part is divided into two aspects: if the metaphor does not fit with one's own continuum, one will be bound; if one understands a good metaphor oneself, one can benefit others. The view is divided into two aspects: the great garuda can understand that amrita is separate from the root, and by understanding in this way, one can cut it off. The practice is divided into three aspects: explaining the method of abiding that cannot be thought of through metaphors, not making any modifications, not making any pretenses, but abiding naturally; if one recognizes the nature of awareness, recognizes that thoughts and discriminations are false, one can be liberated from suffering. Conduct is divided into two aspects: conduct, the dignity of being free from afflictions; when conduct is integrated into the dharmadhatu, everything will be regarded as an assistant. The result is divided into two aspects: by understanding the meaning of the result, one can reach a state of non-accomplishment; being certain that the arrogant self is the Buddha. The third general meaning, explaining the five aspects that are separate from metaphors: awareness is delusion, ignorance is wisdom, uncreated is the basis, non-doing is the path, and non-accomplishment is the result. The first part is divided into two aspects: the nature of ignorance is delusion, and delusion arises depending on non-discriminating schools of thought. The second part is divided into two aspects: therefore, transforming ignorance into wisdom, whatever arises in awareness is self-born. The third part is divided into two aspects: the true Buddha is uncreated, the uncreated, non-composite will not be understood from the world. The fourth part is divided into two aspects: recognizing that the four extremes of the uncreated are unreal, and by recognizing the nature of the form aggregate, one can be liberated from samsara. The fifth part is divided into four aspects: in order to guide those of small capacity who have not achieved, achieving on the side is meaningless, and if the understanding of the Dharma is not liberated, then it is meaningless.
