If thoughts arise and are not recognized, one will wander in samsara. Therefore, in all four activities, whatever external objects appear to the six senses, hold them with mindfulness. Carefully observe their essence, and they will dissolve into clarity, emptiness, and non-grasping. Recognize, "My preliminary practice has arisen," and then abide in that state with astonishment and severance. In this situation, if the mind wanders because of not having practiced before, use this method to enhance it: What is the external appearance being fixated on? What is the internal body being fixated on? What is the secret mind being fixated on? Examine with wisdom. If no fixation is found upon examination, then abide in that state. If the mind wanders again towards appearances, then first examine where the appearance of the object to which the mind is wandering arises from? Where does it reside now? Where does it ultimately cease? Do not generalize roughly, but search carefully. Then, if it dissolves into non-grasping, hold it with mindfulness and abide in that state. Investigate in this way. Furthermore, investigate: Where does the mind of the cutter arise from? Where does it go? Where does it reside? Observe and investigate thoroughly. If, upon observation, the mind is found to be creating disturbances, then observe its essence and restrain awareness without wavering. If one abides single-pointedly and without any conceptualization, then abide equally in that state. Even if that is done, if thoughts arise again, hold them with mindfulness, and immediately and completely sever and abide in all arising thoughts. During all these times, whatever experiences arise, maintain them naturally. Even if that is done, if one still cannot control it and wanders, hold it with mindfulness, cut off the continuation of that thought, observe what it is wandering towards, and then cut off the root of the thought. If you practice without wavering like this, there is no doubt that the experience of clarity, emptiness, and non-grasping will arise. Through such a method, starting from the preliminary instructions, recognize the thief. Its sign is that the actions of body and speech will not disturb you. Its enhancement method, such as dissolving the deity into the breath, etc., should be understood according to the stages of the Great Seal's breath absorption. Here, I will briefly explain a method of breath control that is closely needed: The body posture should be correct, and the breath should abide in equanimity. Then, first exhale the blue wind of wind. Then exhale the red wind of fire. Then exhale the white wind of water. Then exhale the yellow wind of earth. Then exhale the colorless wind of space, like feathers.

Think of the air going out from all the pores, and then exhale. Then, first, slowly draw in the earth air from the nostrils, draw in the lower air, focus on the sermerwa (Tibetan: སེར་མེར་བ, a type of breathing) in the navel, and hold it. If you can't hold it, then exhale slowly. After that, draw the water air into the heart and hold it as before. Then, draw the fire air into the throat and hold it as before. Then, draw the wind air into the crown of the head and hold it as before. Then, draw the sky air from all the pores and hold it so that it pervades the whole body. Alternatively, you can also combine and hold the wind and fire air, the water air, and the wind of wind. Second, the main practice is divided into two. First, the four faults naturally liberated are: the nature of mind itself is inseparable from emptiness, but due to the fault of being too attached to thinking, it wanders in samsara. For example, it is like one's own face. Similarly, if one encounters the cause of a clear mirror, just as one can see one's own image, if one encounters the mirror of the precious guru's instructions and practices it, one can see the nature of mind. Mahamudra naturally arises, but it cannot be symbolized by an example, and because it is too profound, it cannot be recognized. Whenever it naturally abides, it will arise, but because it is too easy, one does not believe it, and thus loses non-distraction. The three kayas naturally arise, but because they are too good, they cannot be contained in the mind, and thus certainty does not arise, losing the fault of decisiveness, and therefore one wanders in samsara. Now, abandon these four faults, rely on the guru's instructions, recognize self-arising, generate certainty, and decisively practice without distraction. Second, the ultimate four kayas naturally arise: when abiding in the self-arising of mahamudra, which is free from all conceptual fabrication, the appearance of various emanations is the self-arising of the nirmanakaya. The non-conceptual mind that is free from clear grasping is the self-arising of the dharmakaya. The clear and non-conceptual appearance as bliss is the self-arising of the sambhogakaya. The nature of these three is inseparable, therefore the ultimate great bliss kaya naturally arises. In that, what is the nature of the non-conceptual aspect? The appearance of various knowable objects without grasping is the all-knowing wisdom. The inseparability of these two is the inseparability of the dharmadhatu wisdom. The stimulation of these is: thinking that all phenomena are empty and selfless, but due to clinging to self and mine, beings wander in samsara, how pitiful! And
