The Elucidation of the Essential Points of the Great Seal Four-Letter Instruction, the Protector of Day. Written by Götsangpa. The Elucidation of the Essential Points of the Great Seal Four-Letter Instruction, the Protector of Day. Written by Götsangpa. The essential points of the Great Seal Four-Letter Instruction, the teaching of the perfectly complete Buddha, the Great Vajradhara, the Elucidation of the Essential Points, the Protector of Day, resides here. Namo Guru Deva Dakini. (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) Homage to the Guru, Deva, Dakini! The teachings of the Buddhas' three bodies, the vast array of sutras, tantras, and treatises, the provisional meaning, the hidden intention, and the ultimate meaning, have become the essence. Among the countless names and traditions of the Great Seal, for the Great Seal Four-Letter, there was formerly the root text. The summary of its instructions. The notes as its elucidation. The supporting Dharma, the extremely detailed Four Yogas Oral Instructions composed by Lord Yang Gonpa. The Four Yogas Oral Instructions of Lord Götsangpa, which primarily emphasize the path and stages, are profound and greatly blessed. Since they are complete and without deficiency, there is little need for many records by ordinary individuals. Although it is difficult to hold them as a standard in this age of disputes, I will express a little of my own experiential understanding because I cannot refuse the earnest requests of holy beings. Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha are the supreme refuge. Guru, Yidam, and Dakini are the three roots. The all-encompassing Like a wish-fulfilling jewel, the source of all needs, I prostrate to the root guru, the lord of the lineage. The mind transmission, the oral transmission, the symbolic transmission, and the verbal transmission. I will write here the instructions on the Great Seal without error. Please grant your compassionate acceptance and blessings. There are eight ways of teaching the Great Seal instructions: the false, noisy instruction, which is unrelated to meaning; the greedy person's army instruction, which is a method where neither the words nor the meaning are mixed with the lineage; and the instruction from the book by the ignorant, which is when one teaches from the book without any confidence in one's own understanding, experience, or realization. These three extremes are faults to be abandoned. The pandit's word instruction, which is when all the words are memorized, and the meaning is understood without error; and the yogi's direct instruction, which points out the essential points of body posture, mind posture, and object of focus, and indicates one's own experience.

To cultivate the certainty of arising in the continuum, and what is called the experiential guidance of a yogi, refers to guiding the manner of arising in the continuum of individuals with high, low, and middling faculties, and guiding uncertainly by combining one's own hearing, experience, and realization. What is called the enlightened one's intention guidance refers to thoroughly penetrating the student's continuum with wisdom and applying the guidance all at once. What is called the old woman's pointing guidance refers to introducing the three bodies and five wisdoms as a pointing posture, based on whatever experience, practice, and realization have arisen in one's own continuum. These five are faultless and meaningful guidance. Unrelated to these are empty talk and empty questions. Mixing attainment, distraction, attachment, enjoyment, etc., being coarse and shallow, not pursuing meaning, is called the "crude guidance of a great person," which is erroneous practice. Not like that, but applying the definitive meaning red guidance. This is divided into three parts: preliminaries, main practice, and conclusion. The common preliminaries have eight aspects: For individuals who have awakened their karmic connections through previous practice, certainty is not necessary, only clarification is needed. For example, when the great Jetsun Milarepa gave guidance to the fisherman Nyama Paldar Bum. For those with excellent faculties, who have practiced in the past and also in this life, and have arisen in the continuum, it is sufficient to introduce the meaning, such as the biographies of Padampa Sangye and Je Phagmo Drupa. In other cases, if understanding is certain, but the experience of one's own ground has not arisen in the continuum, then giving guidance is very important. The uncommon preliminaries have six aspects: As mentioned earlier, it is not necessarily needed for those whose lineage has been awakened by birth or practice. In other cases, one must practice until the signs of experience of one's own ground have appeared. The signs of experience of these (preliminaries) are consistent with the general scriptures. After Vajrasattva dissolves into oneself, visualize oneself as the deity according to one's own preference, and never abide in an ordinary body. If this is listed separately, the preliminaries become seven aspects. The "guru" in the main practice is the indispensable guru for the person who wants to attain supreme accomplishment, inseparable like life. Because it is the source of all accomplishments and qualities, it never deceives, and is therefore a holy being. In order to respectfully prostrate with the three doors in all stages, temporary and ultimate, of the ground, path, and result, therefore, I prostrate. The "hand" of "Mahamudra" is emptiness, devoid of thought, the "seal" is that all of samsara and nirvana do not go beyond it, and "great" is
