Now, behold the pure lands of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the ten directions, such as Akshobhya in the east, Ratnasambhava in the south, Amitabha in the west, and Amoghasiddhi in the north. In an instant, seeing the inconceivable Buddha-fields, one thinks it is marvelous. Then, one should also contemplate the mind as illusory and without inherent existence, and also focus the mind on the non-letter. The third is the mixing of metaphor and meaning: the three signs of effort, non-effort, and accomplishment. The first is effort: mixing the twelve metaphors such as illusion with afflictions such as hatred. To give an example, when hatred arises, think, "This is illusion, this is a dream," and so on. These are also mind, are illusion, are without inherent existence, are the great seal without letters. This is effortful attention. The second is non-effort: all phenomena of appearance, sound, and samsara and nirvana, are simultaneously and naturally realized as mind being like illusion, without inherent existence, the great seal without letters. As Saraha said, "The realized one dwells in the forest and in the home." The Sambhuti Tantra also says, "When viewing various forms, hearing various sounds, tasting various flavors, speaking and laughing, and doing all kinds of actions, with the yoga of awareness, yoga will continuously arise." This is the meaning of what was said. Just as water poured into water, or ghee poured into ghee, it becomes one taste. Moreover, on top of that, all nine points mentioned earlier are also included. If another conceptual thought arises due to other causes, not clinging to the thought is grasping the past state. Abiding slightly on that is guarding the abiding state. Abandoning the dualistic conceptual thought is abandoning the two extremes. Again, grasping the past state is the time of realization, guarding the abiding state is the time of understanding, and abandoning the two extremes is the time of thorough understanding. Again, as above, because one has not moved from the great seal, one has not lost the past state. Because thoughts increase more and more, one will not be lazy in the abiding state. Because one is liberated from clinging, one will not be excessive in the upper and lower. Therefore, all phenomena are ten metaphors such as illusion.

Realize within duality, realize the meaning in the mind. Mahamudra transcends letters, realize its true meaning. The third is the sign of accomplishment: the sign of effort and the sign of no effort. The sign of effort is when there is entering and exiting meditation, and the sign of no effort is when there is no entering and exiting meditation, being in a state of extreme meditation. Or, effort is shamatha, and no effort is vipassana. Or, effort is the antidote to sudden afflictions, and no effort is being free from the eight worldly concerns and being the antidote to latent tendencies. Or, effort is when the environment is sometimes harmful and sometimes not, and no effort is when environmental conditions bring benefit. When liberated from the session, without entering or exiting meditation, appearances arise as the teacher, all things arise as the guru, afflictions transform into the path, conceptual thoughts arise as wisdom, the five poisons transform into medicine, the precipice of the six realms is cut off, the city of the six consciousnesses is destroyed, and appearances are understood as emptiness and illusion. Like a fire spreading in a forest, or snow falling on the ocean, like a waxing moon, special qualities of realization arise naturally. Like meeting an old acquaintance, without any speculation or effort, one realizes the true nature of Mahamudra, which is beyond sound and conceptual thought. Therefore, in this system, there is no fixed time for practice, because conceptual thoughts become an antidote and become a companion to realization. If so, there is no acceptance or rejection of food, no prohibitions on behavior, and no good or bad friends. One should begin with secret conduct. The third general point is the result: it is the three kayas with seven branches. Self-nature is empty, that is, elaboration is pacified, continuous, that is, the three times are equal. Without obstruction, that is, free from the arising and ceasing of conditioned phenomena. These three are the Dharmakaya, that is, self-nature. The Sambhogakaya has three branches: blazing with marks and signs, union with the wisdom appearance of the mother, and the stream is moistened by uncontaminated bliss, becoming extraordinary. Some also consider it to be four kayas: first, the mind is naturally pure
