In the center of the great terrifying charnel ground, from the letter "པཾ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: paṃ, Romanized Sanskrit: pam, literal Chinese meaning: Bang) arises a lotus, and from the letter "རཾ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: raṃ, Romanized Sanskrit: ram, literal Chinese meaning: Rang) arises a sun disc. Upon a seat of stacked great corpses, formed from the letter "ཎྀ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: ṇī, Romanized Sanskrit: ni, literal Chinese meaning: Ni) which subdues enemies and obstacles, and marked entirely with the letter "ཧཱུྃ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: hūṃ, Romanized Sanskrit: hum, literal Chinese meaning: Hum) on a curved knife arising from "ཧཱུྃ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: hūṃ, Romanized Sanskrit: hum, literal Chinese meaning: Hum). From this arises Mahakala, whose body color is like the clouds at the end of time, with one face and two arms, the right hand brandishing a curved knife, and the left hand holding a skull cup filled with blood and a heart at the chest. Blood drips from the corners of his mouth, with three eyes, bared fangs, and a moving tongue. His mustache, eyebrows, and hair are reddish-yellow and stand erect. His limbs are thick and short, his belly large, and he wears a tiger skin loincloth. He is adorned with a crown of five dry skulls and a necklace of fifty fresh heads. With his right leg bent and his left leg extended, he stands upon a seat of lotus, sun, and corpses, amidst a blazing mass of great fire. Alternatively, instead of a tiger skin loincloth, he may wear a black silk cloak with a golden belt, and wear long Magadha boots on his feet. To the left of the main deity, on a wind mandala, from the letter "བྷྱོཿ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: bhyoḥ, Romanized Sanskrit: bhioh, literal Chinese meaning: Bhio) arises the blue-black Queen of Desire Realm, holding a sword and a skull cup filled with blood. She sits in a wrathful posture upon a red female donkey or crow, running in an ocean of blood. Below and in front of the main deity, on a seat of crossed lotus, sun, and corpses, from the letter "ཕཊ་" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: phaṭ, Romanized Sanskrit: phat, literal Chinese meaning: Phat) arises Karma Mahakala, with a dark bluish-black body, one face, two arms, and three eyes. His right hand holds a large sandalwood club, and his left hand holds an iron bowl filled with nectar. Fire blazes from the top of the club, water churns from the bottom of the club, and armies of gods and asuras emanate from within the club. He wears a black silk cloak with a golden belt and sits with his left leg extended. To his left, from the letter "མཾ་" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: maṃ, Romanized Sanskrit: mam, literal Chinese meaning: Mam) arises Ekajati, with a dark bluish-black body, holding a sword with a handle of sin and a skull cup filled with blood, riding a three-legged mule. Outside, she is surrounded by the protectors of the directions, the guardians of the land, and a host of eight classes of spirits. On the foreheads of all these deities is the syllable "ཨོཾ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: oṃ, Romanized Sanskrit: om, literal Chinese meaning: Om), at their throats is the syllable "ཨཱཿ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: āḥ, Romanized Sanskrit: ah, literal Chinese meaning: Ah), and at their hearts is the syllable "ཧཱུྃ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit: hūṃ, Romanized Sanskrit: hum, literal Chinese meaning: Hum). Light radiates from my own heart center, and from the eight great charnel grounds and the places of intrinsic nature, I invite the Lord and Lady together with their retinue. Vajra samaja hum! Through faith and samaya, come forth, Mahakala! Come forth! You are the chief of all the terrifying Dharma protectors, the stainless realm
