Those sentient beings who create karma possess immeasurable qualities. Those sons of good families who desire the sacred Dharma, all the countless karmas they have accumulated will be purified merely through headaches, contracting diseases, experiencing pain, and developing sores. Thus it is said. If someone believes that the Tathagata possesses a permanent Dharma nature, then that person is as rare as the Udumbara flower. After my parinirvana, if anyone hears this profound Mahayana sutra and generates faith, know that they will not fall into the lower realms for hundreds of thousands of kalpas in the future. Thus it is said. Sons or daughters of good families, if they strive to understand that "the Tathagata is eternal, the sacred Dharma will not decline, and the Sangha will not disappear," then they should also be regarded as being in the state of Buddhahood, just like me. Thus it is said. For example, just as darkness disappears when the sun rises, merely hearing this Essence Sutra will quickly purify the heaps of sins of the five heinous crimes and the uninterrupted karmas. Even if it is to surpass others, be instructed by others, for the sake of gain and honor, or even if one does not generate the mind of enlightenment thinking that one does not need enlightenment, merely hearing this Essence Sutra will cause the seeds of enlightenment to enter every pore of that person's body like the sun's rays in summer. If one has generated the mind of enlightenment in the presence of Buddhas as numerous as the grains of sand in one Ganges river, then in times of evil they will not denigrate this Dharma but will have faith in it. If one has generated the mind of enlightenment in the presence of Buddhas as numerous as the grains of sand in eight Ganges rivers, then in times of evil they will uphold, recite, and read this sutra, and also transcribe it into books for others, encourage others to uphold and recite it, and also be able to explain its meaning. And so on, it is extensively taught. In short, the Omniscient Dolpopa said: Merely hearing the name of the Tathagatagarbha will lead to Buddhahood, what need is there to mention practicing it with faith, respect, and manifestation? Therefore, those who possess wisdom and compassion should teach this Dharma even if it means abandoning their own lives. Those who seek liberation should search for it even if it means rescuing themselves from a great pit of fire.

One should listen. Keep this advice as the essence of your heart. As for the lineage: Like the prayer to the omniscient savior, up to the protector, and beyond, the Shentong lineage. From the venerable one, through: Gyaltsab Narthangpa, Lodro Namgyal, Ngawang Trinle, Kunzang Wangpo, Tsewang Norbu, Tenpai Nyinje, Dudul Dorje, to Jamyang Gonpo Dzogpai Sangye Pema Nyinwangpo, from the thirteenth venerable one's view instruction manual, the excellent stream of blessings and the ripening liberation of the Kalachakra were bestowed, and there are other pure ways of transmission as well. The profound view is of the scriptures, although it is the definitive meaning, those who realize it are few. Because Gyaltsab Jampa is without error, teach and study the Mahayana sutras. The ultimate of Vajra Yoga practice, although it is ultimate, practitioners are few. Because of unwavering faith in the King of Tantras, do not let saliva drip for the inferior. Kunzang's conduct has few obstacles, although the ground is high, it is difficult to be virtuous. Establish the biographies of the predecessors as proof, and restrain well with the vows of individual liberation and bodhisattva. If view, meditation, and conduct are all pure, then both one's own and others' benefit will be quickly accomplished. This is not a self-made work of those who desire to be wise, but the essence of the intent of the scriptures and treatises. By this virtue, may I and all sentient beings abandon the five great faults, obtain the five great qualities, and realize the ultimate reality of the Dharmadhatu. This was written according to the wishes of the holders of the teachings of the glorious Jonangpa, the wise and accomplished Ngawang, by the mediocre monk Yonten Gyatso, who gained faith from knowing the empty basis, the Sugata-garbha, at the great Dharma monastery of glorious Jamtang, may I have the opportunity to hear, think, and meditate on the essential teachings in all lifetimes. May virtue and goodness increase! The Fourth Volume of the Treasury of Instructions: The View Instruction of the Great Shentong Madhyamaka, the Stainless Rays of the Vajra Moon.
