Sprinkle with good water. Then, in the middle, arrange lion thrones and other decorations, beautifully displaying the main objects of veneration, the image of the Buddha Shakyamuni. Above that, place the lineage of lamas, with this Dharma as the main focus. To the right and left, place the yidam deities and Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Below, arrange the dakinis, Dharma protectors, wealth deities, etc., in the correct order. In front or to the left or right, wherever is convenient, place the volumes of holy Dharma such as the Prajnaparamita Sutra and stupas. Even if such complete representations of the Three Jewels are not available, arrange whatever objects of veneration you have with respect and reverence, to generate faith. Secondly, you must actually arrange offerings in your own dwelling. The absence of offerings is a sign of the absence of faith. The absence of faith is a true sign that genuine holy Dharma will not arise, so at least one-third of your possessions should be devoted to offerings. In front of the Three Jewels arranged above, the offering vessels, the best being gold and silver, the middling being copper and earthenware, and the least being earthenware, wood, etc., should be thoroughly cleaned and arranged with offering water, flowers, incense, lamps, etc., the items being clean and not crooked or tilted, arranged as beautifully as possible. Moreover, not with the intention of achieving the eight worldly concerns such as profit and fame in this life, but with the intention of attaining the state of perfect Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. For this purpose, generate a clear mind of bodhichitta, thinking: "For this purpose, I will offer vast offerings to the lama and the Three Jewels." Rejoice in the benefits of offering, generate strong faith, and so forth, initiating with pure superior intention free from deceitful behavior. In terms of action, abandon stinginess, contentment, contempt, etc., strive to be clean, and accept with joy and respect. Thirdly, if you are taking it up as a continuous practice, erect sturdy posts at the four corners or at the entrance of the dwelling, and completely cut off all other distractions such as people coming and going and internal and external distractions. To create an auspicious connection for staying put, it is also customary to draw a swastika of white earth under your bed, with a bundle of kusha grass spread on top. In any case, if you have a meditation cushion properly prepared,

Also, if there isn't one, prepare a cushion that is slightly high and smooth on the back, arranging it as appropriate. Then, starting at a good afternoon time when the stars are auspicious, sit upright in the posture of either full or half lotus on the cushion prepared above. The key point of speech is to focus on counting the breath naturally flowing in and out of the body without confusion up to twenty-one, and then let the breath settle. Especially, the key point of mind is not to be controlled by negativity and neutrality, but to remember renunciation and Bodhicitta from various aspects. Like this, turn the mind inward and examine whether your mind is controlled by afflictions such as attachment. Are there virtuous thoughts such as faith? When examining in this way, for us beginners, the mind is mostly controlled by afflictions, and only the appearance of this life is mostly manifested. If controlled by afflictions such as attachment, recognize this. Because of such a bad thought, from beginningless time until now, I have wandered helplessly in samsara and continuously experienced suffering. Therefore, now, not even for a moment can I be controlled by such a bad thought. Make a strong determination never to let it arise in the mind again, and generate strong aspiration and courage. No matter what, from beginningless time until now, although I have continuously experienced suffering, I have not had even a moment of weariness or disgust, but instead have been controlled by the joy of merely being in samsara. If this continues, I will still have to experience endless suffering as before. Therefore, now, through the kindness of the Guru and the Three Jewels, I have obtained the precious human body with leisure and endowments. I am cared for by a holy spiritual friend who shows the path without error. I have encountered the rare and precious complete teachings of the Buddha. I have gained a little of the power of wisdom to distinguish what to adopt and abandon. If I can practice myself, I have obtained such profound instructions that can easily bestow the state of Buddhahood quickly. If I do not strive to seize this opportunity when I have the freedom to practice such profound Dharma, it will be extremely difficult to obtain such a good basis again. This one time I have obtained it
