The establishment of beings in the state of compassion: Beings are born from various kinds of life forms, and are controlled by the continuity of birth, future birth, and the process of birth. They cannot know the end of thoughts, are deceived by thoughts, follow the continuity of thoughts, and cannot turn back from erroneous thoughts. They are deluded by the illusions of magic, like an elephant of illusion. They are deluded by dreams, lose truth in dreams, and are dreamers controlled by dreams. They abandon this path, regard wrong paths and other paths as the right path, and proclaim it as the unerring path. For these people, like extracting gold from stone, compassionately seizes (their delusion). For those five hundred degenerate people who have not been tamed and are tormented by the times, they treat the pure scriptures that are difficult to understand like mere sounds, and do not act according to the Dharma. They act according to their own intellectual power and hold various views. They are distracted by the stream of ignorance and are deprived of the nectar yoga of the essence of the scriptures. In order to dedicate the merit of writing the "Twelve Key Points" to Bodhi, therefore, the supreme path spoken by the Buddhas is the secret of the heart. Although it is not universally applicable to all beings, and only Buddhas can practice it, through the power of habituation, in a non-contradictory manner, it is well-argued from valid reasoning. For the benefit of beings, this non-dual supreme path should be in all times and places, not be harmed by adverse forces, and may the hearts of all Buddhas increase! This "Bodhicitta Practice: Refining Stone into Gold" was written by the great scholar Jampal Shenyen Completed. Translated, edited, and finalized by the Indian Abbot Śrī Siṃha and the Tibetan translator Ba Gor Vairocana Rakṣita. This treatise has an excellent commentary called "Explanation of the Twelve Key Points of the Bodhicitta Vows," which should be consulted for detailed understanding. Auspicious! Good! First volume of the "Treasury of Instructions," a precious compilation of the root texts of the Great Perfection Mind Series.
