Because it is beyond the realm of thought. From the "Body Relic Burning Precious Tantra": The basis of appearance is without inherent nature, appearing as Dharma that is beyond speech, thought, and expression. Even in the equality of the three times, all of this is inherently self-abiding. Thus it is said. To repeat "la" as emptiness, without cause and effect: The self-arisen awareness that appears as objects and mind, just as they are, is also merely a name, transcending expression and free from elaboration. Like the sky, without an agent, in a state of emptiness. Without action or effort, transcending good and bad, virtue and vice. Transcending cause and effect, without the ten natures, vast and boundless, it is the realm beyond expression. Dharma and non-Dharma are originally empty, never having existed. The nature that is beyond thought and inexpressible is the Great Perfection, free from mind, and is repeated as "la." Just as objects and mind appear to be non-existent, the essence of awareness is also like the sky, exhausted of Dharma, transcending mind, without good, evil, cause, or effect. Because it transcends the realm of the ten natures, the uninterrupted equality, beyond thought and expression, is repeated as "la." In the "All-Creating King Tantra," it says: I am the essence of all Bodhicitta, the secret instruction is not found elsewhere. Because it transcends all addition and slander, I repeat the "la" of all Dharmas. Because the realm without self has no other, I also repeat the "la" without view or meditation. Because it cannot be protected from other than myself, I also repeat the "la" without protecting vows. Because it cannot be sought from other than myself, I also repeat the "la" without seeking activity. Because there is no abiding from other than myself, I also repeat the "la" without purifying on the ground. Because I have no obscuration from the beginning, I also repeat the "la" as self-arisen wisdom. Because I am the unborn Dharma-nature, I also repeat the subtle Dharma-nature. Because there is no going from other than myself, I also repeat the "la" without going on the path. Buddhas, sentient beings, appearances, existence, containers, and contents, all because the essence of Bodhi arises from me, I also repeat the "la" as originally non-dual. In order to establish self-arisen wisdom, I also repeat the "la" as a great rain of blessings. Because all Dharmas do not exist from other than myself, the All-Creating King, I repeat the "la" of all. Thus it is said. All Dharmas are the essence of Bodhicitta, appearances, existence, samsara, and nirvana are all self-appearing forms of emptiness, uninterrupted vastness is the meaning beyond thought, this explains the precious commentary that distinguishes the two realms.
