Seventeenth story. Explaining in detail the path of gradual entry for those with minds focused on objects. Seventeenth story. Explaining in detail the path of gradual entry for those with minds focused on objects. Thus, having established the definitive meaning of the ground of the Great Perfection of Naturalness through the teachings on the inseparability of space and wisdom, etc., as mentioned before, now, in order to explain the stages of practice with a definitive path, for those with minds focused on objects, the supreme method of leading them upwards by ensuring their entry, and for those with minds focused on the self-arising of awareness, the excellent exposition of the key points for direct practice, this is the supremely secret method of traversing to the city of Great Liberation in this very life. Among these, the teaching begins with the determination of the stages of mind for common entry. The meaning of the first place has three constraints: the distinctions of the yogis who practice it, the determination of how to practice, and the actual meaning of what is to be practiced. The first has three aspects: the common thorough classification, the explanation of the individual meanings, and the determination of the supreme place. The first is: From Rangshar: Alas! Alas! Listen, close attendants! There are the yogi of signs and words, the yogi who merely grasps at symbols, the yogi of following, the yogi of determining the nature itself, the yogi of the mind of appearances, the yogi of entering action, the yogi of action as cause, the yogi of action as condition, the yogi of ultimate fruition, the yogi of true meaning, the yogi of ultimate liberation, and the yogi of accomplished action. Thus. Second, explaining the individual meanings, among the twelve types of yogis, it is determined that the first eight do not liberate, while the latter four do liberate. Again, it says: The yogi of signs and words clings to words and acts on words. If he does not know and relies on words, I have not said that this liberates. The yogi who relies on symbols relies on symbols himself. By his actions, he bribes others. He is bound by his own thoughts. I have not said that this liberates either. The yogi of following entry abides in the ground of faith. He acts with faith. The first

Placing hope on others, I have not said that is liberation. The yogi who abides in the natural state, meditates on the non-conceptual single-pointedness. The state that possesses the nature of non-conceptuality, I have not said that is liberation either. The yogi of appearances as mind, all arises from my mind. Once the nature of mind is realized, what else is there to do? Those who constantly say such things, I have not said that is liberation. The yogi who engages in action, believes that meaning can be accomplished through action. Those who are bound by great actions, first generate bodhicitta and act, and from then on, they do and accomplish all actions. I have not said that is liberation either. The yogi of action as cause, raises the cause itself as the path, relies on the cause, and looks to the cause, the cause itself is manifested, I have not said that is liberation either. The yogi of action as condition, seeks the true meaning through conduct, holds onto aspects that are not in accordance with one's own nature, I have not said that is liberation either. The yogi of the ultimate result, carries realization onto the path, does not abide in the ground and the path, and upon seeing one's own true nature, believes that is true great liberation. The yogi of true meaning, even having found one's own realization, when the appearances of the bardo are purified, upon seeing one's own true nature, from then on believes that ultimate liberation is attained. The yogi of ultimate liberation, when finding the ground of certainty, having found and seen one's own true nature, believes that one has transcended the true ground. The yogi of accomplished action, is the primordial pure great Buddha, it is said that there is no departing from that. For those four great yogas, it is said that there is no need to practice on the ground, it is said that there is no need to traverse the path. Thus it is said. Because the methods of practicing the path are different, here, because it is the manifestation of clear light, one enters from the lower levels, even though it is said that there is no need to practice and traverse the ground and path, on one's own path, the defilements of the three doors (body, speech, and mind), the aggregates with substance, the moving thoughts, and the coarse winds and mind need to be purified. When those are purified, the signs of the lower ground and path being naturally perfected appear, thinking that the upper is perfected, the lower is naturally perfected, therefore, for the one ground of Great Perfection, it is said that there is no need to practice and traverse. The one ground is the spontaneously accomplished awareness, as it says in the *Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra*: 'Without alteration, without practice, awareness is spontaneously perfected.'
