The Second Vajra Place: An Extensive Explanation of the Stages of Delusion into Existence. The Second Vajra Place: An Extensive Explanation of the Stages of Delusion into Existence. From this, within the second general topic, there are two aspects to how delusion arises: generally showing the nature of delusion, and extensively explaining the specific categories of how the body is formed. The first has two parts: briefly stating the essence, and extensively explaining the nature. The first is: delusion arises from the aspect of not recognizing the ground appearance itself. As it says in the Uttaratantra: "Because one does not know, in the primordially pure, because the nature of reality does not know its own essence, it takes up as similar to a cause. The support of the object is from colors, by the cause and condition of subtle dual aspects, it becomes the object of cyclic existence's karma." So it is. If asked how it arises, when it arises as the ground appearance, the power of compassion, the knowing, clear awareness, the ability to examine objects, that which arises naturally, in dependence on not recognizing its own essence, arises simultaneously with the three ignorances. That is: the ignorance of the same self-nature as the cause, arising as knowing, is itself not knowing; the co-emergent ignorance, not recognizing its own essence, that and the knowing arising simultaneously; and the imputed ignorance, the aspect of thinking of the self-appearance as other, these three. These three, on one consciousness, having different aspects but the same essence, when it examines its own appearance, it does not recognize the nature of the ground's essence, self-nature, and compassion, and the spontaneously present appearance of the ground appearance, on the appearance, it does not recognize the nature of the ground and the ground appearance, but grasps it as other, from this difference delusion arises. That is, from the cause, the three ignorances, and the four conditions, the impure aspect of the object, when consciousness is deluded into grasper and grasped on the appearance, the grasping of the six consciousnesses arises without ceasing, therefore the six afflictions arise as a latent aspect, binding awareness, and delusion arises in the appearance of the six objects. As it says in "The Lamp that Illuminates": "From that ground abiding thus, the cause and seed of delusion, the clear aspect is lost outwards, consciousness is clear, clear, aware, aware, ignorance is from the three, mind alone turns outwards to the appearance, with the thought of grasping the object as self, in the ground and the ground's appearance, the ground and the ground's knowing are confused, the cause of delusion meets the object's condition, because the four conditions are impure objects, the clear aspect of various appearances ceases, the grasping of the six consciousnesses does not cease, therefore the six afflictions arise.

Bound by me. (Tibetan) Six realms appear separately. (Tibetan) Thus, grasping onto realms as self. (Tibetan) Thus it is said. (Tibetan) The six realms are form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena. (Tibetan) The six afflictions are ignorance, desire, hatred, delusion, pride, and jealousy. (Tibetan) Among them, ignorance pervades all five poisons, while delusion is one of the five poisons, so they are explained separately. (Tibetan) If ignorance is divided, the three of cause have been explained, and the six aspects of essence are: In Self-Arisen, it says, ignorance is as follows: the ignorance of the root mind, the ignorance of mistaken objects, the ignorance of the base of mistakenness, the ignorance of grasping thoughts, the ignorance of fabricated paths, and the ignorance of unknowing bewilderment. Thus, six types of ignorance arise, and one does not see one's own appearance, so it is said. (Tibetan) These also arise as six types of bewilderment in their respective aspects, so they are explained separately. (Tibetan) The six minds are: Again, from this arise the six grasping minds. (Tibetan) The mind that is in accordance with ignorance, the mind of the consciousness of mind, the mind of universal searching, the mind of determination, the mind of grossness, and the mind of definite establishment, so it is said. (Tibetan) These also, in order, are: the mind with movement, self-knowing with knowledge, grasping objects, definitely grasping objects, being distracted by objects, gross afflictions, and focusing one-pointedly inward, are the bewilderment of the six aspects. (Tibetan) Second, elaborating on the nature, there are two: the way of delusion, the aspect of essence, and the way of appearance, the aspect of conditions, are elaborated. (Tibetan) First, the common basis of delusion, at the time of appearance, the stain of intelligence not knowing its own face, intelligence itself is defiled by delusion, so the knowable intelligence, which is itself without stain, also becomes stained, wrapped in the net of mind, and the intelligence of the essence of primordial purity is defiled by thoughts, bound by the six minds, the body enters the net of indivisible particles, and the clear light is dimmed. (Tibetan) Also, not knowing that the base appearance arises from itself, it is the condition of cause. That itself appears as an object, so it is the condition of the object of focus. Grasping self and what belongs to self, it is the condition of the possessor. These three are simultaneous, so the four conditions of immediate cause are delusion. As it says in the Garland of Pearls: The common basis of delusion is called ignorance, because it is stained by ignorance itself, the knowable itself also appears as a stain.
