It's like fire and water." This is a refutation of that: If it were only immutable, then one would fall into asserting that the "self" is permanent, and one would fall into the fault of becoming one, and it would be impossible to attain liberation through effort, because impure awareness cannot be transformed into purity. If one asserts this, then one would fall into the fault of not needing to understand the ground and meditate on the path, and one would fall into the fault that understanding the ground cannot dispel delusion. As it says in the "Klong Drug Pa": "When explaining 'the definite ground,' this is also not the true essence. For example, to those with jaundiced eyes, the conch shell itself appears yellow. By the difference of reversing one's own ground, self and other are without fixed limits. Therefore, that is also not true. Or, because the cause is definite and the result is definite, it becomes no different from asserting that the 'self' is permanent." That is its meaning. Summarizing the meaning of the refutation: Here, we do not assert it that way. The nature of realization is inherently pure, and even without realization, the nature is non-dual, so it is said that the Dharma-nature, which is pure from the beginning, is immutable, but we do not concede that effort cannot purify. Fourth, regarding the assertion that the ground can be transformed into anything, there are also three aspects. First, stating the assertion: Because the essence is without bias or limitation, it can be transformed into any state. That is its meaning. The refutation of that is: If reality can be transformed, then one would fall into the fault of not being reality, and even if the result has already been liberated, it would revert to the cause, or the deluded appearance of the cause would not change, and the original clear nature, that time when liberation has already passed, would be exchanged with each other, because it can be transformed into anything. If one asserts this, then there is no need, and one would again fall into the fault that returning to liberation is not true, and one would fall into the fault that matter and awareness can be transformed into each other. As it says in that very text: "What was said before about being able to be transformed, if one's own reality can be transformed, then this is also equally uncertain. Because the result itself reverts to the cause, all efforts become unnecessary. Because of reverting again and again, material things cannot be transformed into those with lineage." That is its meaning. Summarizing the meaning: Because it is immutable, it does not become other, and delusion is purified in its place, which is called the essence attaining its own ground. Fifth, regarding the assertion that the ground can be affirmed as anything, there are also three aspects. First, stating the assertion: Because the essence of all things appears as a groundless bias, anything can be affirmed. That is its meaning. The refutation of that is: Anything can be affirmed

Just as the Bana (Tibetan transliteration) things have no boundaries, the base also becomes boundless. If you think so, there will be the fault of not being able to establish boundlessness. And it will fall into the two extremes of existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation, so it should not become the base of reality. As it is said in "That Treatise": "For those who have various claims, the teacher once said that all this is just a one-sided guidance, in order to prove that everything is true. Therefore, the fault of boundlessness will arise." The summary of the meaning is: Because it transcends existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation, there is no claim. From a certain expression, anything can be shown as a symbolic example. Sixth, there are three situations in which the base is considered to be diverse. Expressing this view is: "The essence is self-manifest at all times, so the way it appears is also diverse." Refuting this view is: Because the base is diverse, it will become multiple. It cannot be used as the base of pure liberation, so efforts are in vain. Moreover, because multiple is boundless and infinite, there is no time to find certainty and realization. The way of manifestation will change, so the base will also change. If it changes, it cannot be used as the base. Just as many thoughts flow in an instant, the base will also become chaotic and afflicted. As it is said in "That Treatise": "The teacher said before that it was variegated, which is also unreasonable from a certain aspect. The essence of anything manifests, and although the results are different, the meaning is the same. Because the sound of the multitude will weaken it." The summary of the meaning is: It is not considered this way here, because the essence is not established in anything, so it is separated from the basis of the name. The nature is liberated from manifestation, so it is separated from symbols. Reality is liberated from elaboration, so it is separated from characteristics. Because the designation of the three bases of name, symbol, and base cannot be found, even if various manifestations do not stop, the way it exists transcends faults. By following the path, the originally pure and flawless self-tradition is shown as three: recognizing the essence of original purity, eliminating the faults of debate about it, and universally showing the natural state of the way of manifestation. The first is: The original purity of the original base is the great realm that transcends speech, thought, and expression, and transcends the two extremes of existence and non-existence. The essence is pure from the beginning, so it is separated from the extreme of existence and permanence, and has not become the dharma of things and characteristics. The nature is spontaneously accomplished, so it transcends the extreme of non-existence and annihilation. The Dharmata of luminosity and emptiness is completely pure. The Buddha of original nature. The Dharmakaya transforms.
