Third, the commentary on the chapter illustrating the symbols and metaphors of Bodhicitta. Third, the commentary on the chapter illustrating the symbols and metaphors of Bodhicitta. Having thus shown the nature of Bodhicitta, now, within that nature, the nature of all dharmas being gathered into the Great Perfection is explained. All are gathered into the all-encompassing Bodhicitta. Since there is no dharma apart from Bodhicitta, all dharmas are the nature of Bodhicitta. Since all dharmas arise from and manifest within the nature of Bodhicitta, it is like all the environment and beings being gathered within the nature of space, and like the taste of all sugarcanes being gathered into the taste of one sugarcane. Thus, the way in which the essence of samsara and nirvana and the intention of all Buddhas are gathered is shown. The Kunjed Gyalpo says: "In me, the All-Creating King, the meaning of the intention of all Buddhas of the three times is gathered. In this nature of mine, body is gathered, speech is gathered, mind is gathered." And, as in the nature of the All-Creating King, the unborn is shown, since all Buddhas are unborn, the unborn Dharmata is shown to be gathered. As in the nature of the All-Creating King, there is no cessation of Dharmata, so in the Dharmata of all the Buddhas mentioned above, there is no cessation. Therefore, it is shown that Dharmata is gathered. Such Bodhicitta is to be known by means of three things: example, meaning, and sign. First, The example: The symbol and metaphor of Bodhicitta is like space. Since the mind has no cause and no place of origin, it is non-abiding, inexpressible, and beyond thought. The expanse of space is merely symbolized as an example. If the symbol and metaphor itself cannot be said to be "this," how can there be thought or expression in the meaning of the symbol and metaphor? This is to be known as an example of self-nature purity. The nature of mind itself is self-arisen wisdom, without entity or characteristics, empty and clear, free from elaboration. Since there is no designation of "this" or "that," even though space is symbolized as an example, if examined, that symbolic space also has no color, shape, or graspable aspect, so it is not a dharma to be established as an example. Thus, the meaning symbolized by that example, the self-nature purity of mind itself, is not established anywhere, so it is to be known as merely a temporary, non-designatable symbol and metaphor. The Lion's Roar of Perfect Skill says: Equality, devoid of things, Buddha
