Having reached the other shore, those who progress until Buddhahood, these qualities are like the sun and its rays. Just as when the sun rises, its rays appear together, if one attains realization of the paths and bhumis, then the qualities of abandonment and realization, the Buddha-eye and the superknowledges, will appear without deception; this is the nature of reality. Now, to refute the wrong views of other systems: Some say that the qualities of the paths and bhumis are provisional meanings. Some say that even if one attains realization, there are no qualities. To assert both existence and non-existence is a mind of delusion. Clinging to and fixating on one's own view, one abandons the fault of slandering the unerring Dharma. Not having met the true Dharma and the virtuous spiritual friends who teach it and possess its qualities, and lacking the illumination of study and contemplation, relying on the Dharma and teachers of fools, they are confident in their mere lack of accomplishment. Some, clinging to the side of emptiness, taking what is called "present awareness" and considering illusory appearances as mind, take it as the path. They say that the qualities of the paths and bhumis of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are provisional meanings to lead children, and in reality do not exist. Others say that even if one attains the realization of the four yogas, which are equal from the first to the tenth bhumi, like a continuous stream of water without meditation, the qualities spoken of in the paths and bhumis have both existence and non-existence. This is like saying that there is no sun in the world, or that even if there is a sun, there are two kinds of sun, one with light and one without light. Merely stating these systems, if one has discrimination, one will understand, so there is no need to debate. As it says in the Pramāṇaviniścaya: "Because the paths of error are endless, they are not elaborated here." Such a system is because one clings to bad views and slanders the sacred Dharma. If one hears the true Dharma that is contrary to this, one becomes angry and holds wrong views, views of extremism, and views of the aggregates, and with the fire of attachment and aversion, one burns the seeds of virtue and wanders in the lower realms for a long time. As it says in the Four Hundred Verses: "If one is attached to one's own side and dislikes the side of others, one will not attain nirvana, and the two practices will not be pacified." One should merely examine whether something is naturally mistaken or not mistaken and then adopt or reject it. One should not be attached to what is not mistaken or hate what is mistaken, because the cause of anger is sin.

For what increase? When determining the Dharma, one should enter after knowing what is correct and incorrect. If done with rebuke, it is because the obscurations are great. The fourteenth root downfall states: 'To disparage the Dharma of oneself or others' tenets is the sixth.' And the Samadhiraja Sutra states: 'Those who, having heard this Dharma, become attached, and having heard what is not Dharma, become angry, destroyed by pride and arrogance, are reversed, and experience suffering due to the power of pride.' Therefore, for all those who have entered the wrong path as previously described, if one can dissuade them with compassion, one should dissuade them. If one cannot, one should not argue, but think, 'May they return from this wrong path someday.' And one should place one's mind on the equality of all dharmas, without partiality. The Four Hundred Verses states: 'Those who possess the nature of great non-contention, for them there is no partiality. For whom there is no partiality, where would there be an other side for them?' Like that. Now, the meaning is summarized in a way that is consistent with the qualities of the grounds and paths: Here, from meditating on the path, the accumulation of qualities increases, like summer crops. Because one desires to attain Buddhahood by traversing the grounds and paths, although the body and wisdom are like jewels, they are not examples of material things, but from non-conceptual spontaneous accomplishment, limitless beings pervade up to the peak of existence. This is said to be the agreement of sutra and tantra. Just as the grounds and paths progress upwards, qualities also increase upwards, like summer grasses, trees, forests, and crops. At the time of ultimate Buddhahood, the examples of the wish-fulfilling jewel, vase, and tree are also without conception, but it is said that the spontaneously accomplished body, wisdom, and activity pervade the sky, benefiting sentient beings. It is not said to be an example of one's own self-aware wisdom lacking the ten powers, lacking objectless compassion, lacking loving-kindness, and so on. Therefore, even though mind and mental factors are pacified in the expanse, one should know that the body and self-aware wisdom, like the sun and moon, always abide in the nature of spontaneously accomplished luminosity. This is what is said in all the sutras and tantras of definitive meaning, so those with wisdom should understand. From the Great Vehicle's instruction manual, the Treatise The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury, the extensive explanation of the twenty-first chapter, which indicates the boundaries of the path's progression.
