It is in order to establish the state of great bliss liberation by eliminating (obstacles). Therefore, from this very moment, one must strive with great diligence to rely on those three excellent things. Among them, what will definitely not be wasted by relying on it is a virtuous friend, so one must rely on the excellent lama without separation. What will definitely not be wasted as a refuge is the Three Jewels, so one must take refuge in these three. What will definitely not be wasted as cultivation is the practice of Dharma, so one must practice virtue without partiality. What will definitely not be wasted as provisions is the two accumulations, so one must constantly accumulate them without negligence. What will definitely not be wasted as a dwelling is meditation, so one must build the castle of tranquility and insight. What will definitely not be wasted as a friend is a person who possesses Dharma, so one must associate with Dharma friends with respect. What will definitely not be wasted as a result is the three bodies, so one must diligently accomplish Buddhahood. As it is said in the Sutra of Advice to the King: "O Great King, at that time, at that time, the Dharma will become an island, a dwelling, a protector, and a reliance." For example, for those afflicted by cold, it is fire; for those afflicted by heat, it is a cool room; for those afflicted by thirst, it is cool water; for weary travelers, it is shade; for those traveling a long road, it is a mount; for those sleeping, it is a good bed; for those hungry, it is delicious food; for those tormented, it is satisfaction; for those lost, it is a guide; for those afflicted by illness, it is a doctor; for those sinking in mud, it is a rope; for those carried away by floods, it is a boat; for what is difficult to cross, it is a bridge; for what is frightening, it is a platform; for a dark cave, it is a lamp; for the great ocean, it is a ship; for the poor, it is wealth; for those working, it is a friend; for those cutting, it is a tool; for those entering battle, it is armor; for those afraid, it is a good escort; for those fighting, it is reinforcements; for famine, it is grain; for doubt, it is an explainer; for the wandering, it is a dwelling; for danger, it is a protector and refuge. And so on. In this way, through examples and reasoning, one should remember death in all activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down. In all activities such as eating, drinking, walking, and sleeping, one should remember only death in one's mind. When walking, because the movement of the feet is impermanent, one should urge oneself to abide in the state of Buddhahood. When sitting, because abiding is impermanent, one should urge oneself to abide in the unchanging state. When standing, because standing is impermanent, one should abide in equanimity.

And from the Nirvana Sutra: "Among the fields that are cultivated, obtaining the autumn harvest is the most excellent. Among all footprints, the footprint of the king of cattle is the most excellent. Among all perceptions, the perception of impermanence and death is the most excellent. This can avert all perceptions of the three realms." From the Vinaya Sutra: Giving robes and food as offerings to a hundred monks.
