One should not be arrogant or conceited about one's slight wealth, but should always keep in mind the concept of impermanence. As the master Nagarjuna said, "All the perfect meditations, such as those of Brahma, will undoubtedly be born in hell later, because they did not see the latent self-grasping." It is also said, "Even having become a universal monarch, one will fall back to the earth, and in samsara, one will become a slave again." Regarding abandoning arrogance, it is said in the Eight Branches of Medicine, in the worldly customs called "The Drop that Nourishes Beings": "From those who achieve liberation, the pull of karma is very distant, and various joys and sorrows will arise. Do not be arrogant when wealthy, and do not be discouraged when declining." Like that. Therefore, even in this life, think about how one's life may be happy in the early years and painful in the later years, and so on. Wealth has the nature of decline, youth has the nature of impermanence, relatives and friends have the nature of separation, and knowing that everything is unreliable, generate renunciation of impermanence. As it says in the Extensive Play Sutra, "These qualities of desire are like the moon in water, like an image, like an echo in a valley, like dazzling eyes, like watching a dance; know that they are like a dream." And as it says in the Nirvana Sutra, "If there is prosperity, there is decline; if there is gathering, there will be separation; youth is also impermanent; the color of prosperity will also be taken away by disease; there is nothing that is permanent." And as it says in the Ocean of Questions Sutra, "All wealth will eventually decline; the king's enjoyment and power are also impermanent." The appearance of the container and its contents depends on temporary impermanence to generate renunciation. For example, the changes of the four seasons and ages, both internal and external, will certainly lead to impermanence and death, so abandon the clinging to permanence. Previously, in this Jambudvipa, there were also four periods: the perfect age, the threefold age, the twofold age, and the final age of strife. In one lifetime, there are also four stages: the time of being born as an infant, the time of being a young child, the time of being mature, and the time of being old and weak. In one year, there is also the time of planting seeds in spring, the time of lush leaves in summer, and the time of fruit in autumn.

The time when essence is complete, and the time when the winter ground is dry, stone is frozen, these four seasons change, therefore it is impermanent. In the words on impermanence, it is said: When autumn arrives, represented by the cool month, all beings who are extremely happy do not think that their lives will be exhausted, so they do not feel displeasure. As stated in the "Extensive Play Sutra": The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds, the birth and death of beings are like watching a dance. And as stated in the "Sutra Requested by Yu Kuor Kyong": These are like illusions, not real. Contemplate all compounded things as like dreams, and constantly strive to cultivate to the other shore, the grounds, the powers, and the limbs of enlightenment, and the laws of the Buddhas. Therefore, strive diligently. Subtle things change in an instant, therefore generate weariness with impermanence: Form is particles, time is an instant, like lightning in the sky, it is impermanent, so quickly practice the sacred Dharma. Do not cling to coarse appearances as real, because particles reside in indivisibility. Since the coarse is not established, do not entrust your mind to external objects. The body is also an aggregation of particles, without parts; the mind is also momentary, without parts, so do not cherish the body and mind that you cling to. Do not attach to the illusory appearances of intermediate enjoyment. Do not develop reliance on bad habits for the various illusions of samsara. Because nothing has essence, generate strong weariness with impermanence. As stated in the "Extensive Play Sutra": The life of beings is like lightning in the sky, and flows quickly like a waterfall pouring down a cliff. And as stated in the "Great Nirvana Sutra": Life is always surrounded by many enemies, and it diminishes every moment, and there is no increase. The former also says: Like a pond with its water drained, there is only loss and no gain, how can it be true that my life is eternal? From the time when samsara appears, the nature of compounded things as impermanent has already been established, therefore it is advised to generate weariness: The various containers and sentient beings are changing, like illusions and trees in water, they have no essence. Therefore, this samsara is called impermanent, no one can possess, grasp, and abandon it. Appearing as container and essence.
