Thus, clarifying that all aggregates, realms, and sources gathered by the past are inherently present in the great mandala of the deities. The external appearances are the pure realm of Akanishta, the Buddha-field, densely arranged, the land of bliss. Yet all appearances are empty of inherent existence, like a great ground of blazing jewels, equal and naturally luminous. The arrangement of the mandalas of peaceful and wrathful deities, with doors, stables, and so forth, is entirely complete. The five aggregates of the body and the five elements are the essence of the five Buddha families, visualized as the father and mother deities, as well as the bodhisattva fathers and mothers and the gatekeepers. Thus, all forms are apparent emptiness, all sounds are resounding emptiness, all minds are knowing emptiness. In the illusory nature, meditate on the three mandalas of inexhaustible adornment of body, speech, and mind. That too, in terms of mere clarity, is the generation stage, and in terms of non-inherent existence and the purity of samadhi, it is the perfection stage, thus spontaneously accomplished as the union of generation and perfection. Meditating on this great truth of non-duality, practice yoga in four sessions or in a continuous stream like a river. All external and internal appearances and the coming and going of the mind, good and bad, arise as the king of methods, the spontaneously perfect play. All desirable qualities should be taken as the path by the deity entering into the deity, or by offering worship to the deities. Thus, knowing that the external appearances are the mother, and uniting food, clothing, and so forth in the essence of the father, this play is the deity dissolving into the deity. As the Illusion Sutra says: Forms, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and so forth, are enjoyed by knowing the aggregates as the mother. And so on. Do not enjoy them with ordinary appearances. If one is attached to desirable qualities, the five poisons will flow into one's own stream, so one should not become a practitioner of the secret mantra path. One should not stray from the generation and perfection stages. The Secret Accomplishment Sutra says: Abandoning the body of an ordinary person, with a mind possessed of the pride of divine substance, abiding in the supreme samadhi, then accomplishment is certain, without doubt. The Root Downfall says: Desiring Buddhahood and enlightenment, one should not indulge in anger, which severs the root, even for an instant. There is no liberation for a disturbed mind. Its commentary says: The accumulations of many eons, like nectar leaking into a precious vessel, if one does not constantly strive diligently, how can one achieve one's desires?

Intoxicated by poison. Thus it is said. In short, if one meditates on all appearances as deities and mandalas, like a dream, then the conceptual thoughts that grasp external phenomena, and the darkness that obscures the self-nature of the mandala, will be dispelled, and one will transcend even the extremes of clinging to the existence or non-existence of the completion stage. If someone asks, isn't meditating on the mandala an elaboration? Although it is an elaboration, it is a method for pacifying all bad elaborations into the expanse, so there is no fault. The Two Examinations says: With the yoga of the generation stage, meditate on the elaborations of the ascetic. If you meditate on elaborations as if they were a dream, then the elaborations themselves will make you non-elaborate. Thus it is said. Some here say: There is no recitation of mantras, no asceticism, and no fire offering. There is no mandala-holder, and there is no mandala. That is the recitation of mantras, asceticism, and fire offering. That is the mandala-holder and the great mandala itself. As it is said in the Hevajra, if one holds that there is nothing in ultimate reality, that is slandering the secret mantra with an inferior view. That quote is saying that great yogis who have realized that phenomenal existence is a mandala, and whose afflictions have naturally subsided, do not need artificial, compounded asceticism, etc., because the awareness of realization is co-emergent wisdom, and if fire offerings, etc., are shown as a means to accomplish it, once it is accomplished, there is no need for ordinary causes, just as there is no need to carry a boat after crossing the river. In the self-luminous ground mandala, deities and mantras naturally abide like the sun and its rays in the nature of non-elaboration. The Two Examinations says: In the nature of non-elaboration, deities and mantras truly abide. Thus it is said. If one diligently practices yoga in this way, then all the unsurpassed tantras agree that one will attain Vajradhara in this life or in the bardo. Such a great and unsurpassed yoga, if divided, in the tantras that are non-dual father and mother, the yoga of the father tantra, which is unsurpassed, emphasizes the generation stage, skillful means, winds, and completion stage. The tantras that emphasize the generation stage and completion stage, winds, and extensively demonstrate manifest conduct and various activities are the father tantras. The yoga of the unsurpassed mother tantra emphasizes the completion stage, wisdom, and bindus.
