and the Great Perfection, the essence of the union of the six branches, the nature of the Path with its Fruit, the pacifier that pacifies all elaborations, and the Perfection of Wisdom that realizes the ultimate meaning of reality, are also said to be such. I, too, have seen well that it is so abiding in the Sutras and Tantras, regarding the meaning of having generated a slight experience. From the Guhyasamaja it says: "Non-meditation is the actual meditation. The very act of meditating is not meditation. Thus, through existence and non-existence, meditation is without an object." And from the Unthinkable Sequence it says: "The distinctions of permanence and annihilation, in the true meaning, see as non-dual. Existence and emptiness itself, meditate equally as non-dual. Conventional and ultimate, different and, beyond two and not two, skillful means and wisdom, great yoga, are said to be of one taste, non-dual. The rain of wisdom, of the nature of no-nature, truly abides." And from the Secret Accomplishment it says: "The wisdom goddess is supreme. This is called the Paramita. If one knows and meditates, all beings will be liberated." And from the Unthinkable Sequence it says: "The naturally pure, undefiled, what is the meaning of non-duality? Unborn and without fear, that is the Great Seal." And from the Accomplishment of Wisdom it says: "It is said to be Samantabhadra, and it is also called the Great Seal. It is called Mirror Wisdom, this should be known as the Dharmakaya." And from the Precious Wheel it says: "The wisdom without a basis is the view of natural purity." And from the Chakrasamvara it says: "Because what is existent and non-existent, the meaning of luminosity and freedom from elaboration, should be known as co-emergent." And from the Sutra of the Ornament of Wisdom Light it says: "Not examined by complete thought, the mind that does not abide anywhere, without memory and without attention, I prostrate to the one without an object." And from the King of Samadhi it says: "Without an object and without characteristics, without concepts and without elaboration, the unborn is suchness." And from the Mother it says: "Subhuti, all phenomena are naturally profound and without elaboration." Believing in these and other teachings, the wise who desire liberation should always...

One should meditate in this way. For the yogi who meditates in this way, the introduction to frolicking as the ornament of the mind is: Whatever conceptual thoughts of characteristics arise, they are liberated in that state of being like waves in water. Relax, cherish not losing the natural state of purity. Like this, when meditating in a state like an ocean, without depth or tranquility, without expansion or contraction, if thoughts that scatter outwards arise, do not follow the arising thought by identifying it, do not negate its essence, but relax into self-pacification, and thus do not lose the purity of the previous meditation. In this way, conceptual thoughts like waves will self-pacify in that state of luminosity, because they arise from the nature of mind and are liberated in its state, therefore there is no difference. The Great Brahmin sang the song of the Primordial Vajra: 'As long as it emanates from the mind, that is the nature of the Protector. Are water and waves different?' And, 'Water and fire, abide in the self-luminous one taste, I neither take nor abandon its coming and going.' And, from the All-Creating King Tantra: 'The nature of reality without meditation is enlightenment, and meditation is when there is no distraction, hope, or doubt.' And, 'In the unborn nature of reality, enlightenment, whatever characteristics of mind and mental events arise, in any case, without fixating on "one should abide like this," if one abides in the ground in that way, there is no distraction.' Thus it is. For a beginner, if distracted, one should immediately abide in the state of previous realization. The Ornament of the Sutras says: 'Having fixed the mind on the object of focus, one should not let it be distracted. Having quickly recognized distraction, one should apply it to that again.' Thus it is. How to meditate? Without dullness, without drowsiness, without agitation, without attachment, without wavering, separated from all movement. With pure samadhi, the stream of wisdom is uninterrupted, meditate on the spontaneously born coemergent wisdom. This is the innermost heart essence instruction. Whenever, whether it is wind, elements, or awareness, one should meditate in a comfortable and natural state. Awareness is not dull, not drowsy, conceptual thoughts are not agitated, not attached to the experience of meditation, not wavering from the natural state, not perceiving the movement of breathing in and out, and one should meditate in a clear and transparent state without being defiled by conceptual thoughts. Among these, discursive thought, attachment to joy and pleasure, and the exhalation and inhalation of breath are faults of samadhi. Breath is the cause of agitation, it is the horse of conceptual thought, therefore it is regarded as a fault. Thus, abide in a clear and transparent state.
