Because if that were the case, since even the subtle would not be seen, it would follow that even seeing would be interrupted. The assertion that coarse appearances are also inferred by conceptual thought is also not valid, because in the object of conceptual thought, it would follow that clear appearances would be interrupted, and for a single conceptual thought, it is not permissible to appear as a single meaning with parts, because it is the same as the above situation, and it also prevents the appearance of the subtle itself. In the *Commentary on Valid Cognition* it says: If, according to the number of aspects, you admit that there are various kinds of consciousness, then it is difficult to avoid this analysis, which is similar to that of atoms. Like that. It is also not possible for various appearances to be true in the absence of dualistic grasping, because it is like completely denying that the appearance of many things is established in just one thing. In the *Treatise on the Two Truths* it says: For the meanings that appear as various things, if it is thought that they are not one, then how can the wisdom that appears as various things be established as one? Like that. If, while appearing as many things, one speaks of a single name, then the establishment of many things such as the five fingers, the sun, moon, planets, and stars will be interrupted, because in that it says: Otherwise, on the nature of one thing, if it appears as many natures, how can it be established? Because one thing will be destroyed, and other things will also be destroyed. Like that. Then you will also fall into the fault of destroying the establishment of things and non-things, because although the five aggregates clearly appear as things, you say that they are empty. Because for anything, there is no appearance that can withstand analysis, but only on confused appearances are the names of things fabricated, because in that it says: If analyzed by reason, it is not a thing, other than that it is a thing, how can things and non-things be contradictory? Like that. If it must necessarily become the nature of consciousness, then when meaning appears to eye consciousness, it will necessarily become the nature of consciousness, because the reason why the nature appears clear and trusting is not grasped is the cause of confusion, just like pleasure and pain. Because being clear and trusting has been established by direct perception and admitted to be the nature. The assertion that because the aspect appears as meaning, consciousness is not clear, just like a moment of blue, is also not valid, just like memory and direct perception, for clear eye consciousness, the appearance of unclear meaning cannot be a single entity. In the *Decision on Valid Cognition* it says: Because the thing is not seen, it is not one, because it is not seen that wisdom and the thing are different, it will surely be determined that there is no difference. Like that. Falling into clarity is all beings

Now, it falls into an extreme, namely, the mind-stream of sentient beings can appear as a Buddha, because merely the apprehended and the apprehender are the same. The extreme case is that if it appears as something else, it also truly exists as something else, then the fire burning in the south would also truly exist as the water gushing out in the north, just like the Lokayata, the mind itself would also truly exist as external objects, just like the Samkhya, happiness and suffering themselves would also truly exist as matter, ignorance would also truly exist as wisdom, and happiness would also truly exist as suffering, because the reasons are the same. The Mother Sutra says, "There is no consciousness that can be distinguished, and it cannot be pointed out." Therefore, it is true to realize that phenomena appear as they are. If one thinks that what appears as something else also truly exists as something else, that is blindness. The Ornament of the Sutras says, "Not seeing what exists, but seeing what does not exist, what kind of darkness is that!" In this way, it refutes those who think that appearances are mind, and those ignorant people who claim that the minds of all sentient beings are the same. We believe that in the confused appearance, merely because it appears as the dependent origination as it is, we do not consider anything other than the mind to be truly existent, just like a dream. For the Vijnanavada, first, we must explain their view: Master Dharmottara and others believe that all things that appear as other minds are neither objects nor minds, but are merely the imputed appearances that are obscured by ignorance. The Compendium on Valid Cognition says, "The knowable and the knowing have no difference, just like the different appearances of hair and so on in the mind. When the apprehended and the apprehender are distinguished, their nature is obscured by false discrimination. Just as what is seen through illusion, that is what is established. Therefore, one should not argue about the nature of the apprehended and the apprehender." Therefore, it is impossible for all things that appear as objects to truly exist even in conventional truth. The realm of dreams and the appearance of various phenomena, and the realm of direct perception have no difference in appearance, but because the habit is stable or unstable, the appearance seems to be long or short and true or false. Therefore, the appearance of external objects is false, and clinging to external objects is not established. Realizing the emptiness of the apprehended and the apprehender, the moment of self-luminous wisdom is also existent in ultimate truth. There are two differences: defiled and pure. The difference between these two is the difference between the cause and the effect, the defiled
