Seventh, Explanation of the Chapter Showing the Suffering and Happiness of Vessels and Sentient Beings. Seventh, Explanation of the Chapter Showing the Suffering and Happiness of Vessels and Sentient Beings. Having thus extensively explained the nature of the kalpa, even within the one vessel encompassed by the kalpa, the various manifestations of the karma of sentient beings lead to a detailed explanation of how they experience happiness and suffering. This is the manner just explained. Thus, having shown the nature of vessels and sentient beings, the appearance of alternating happiness and suffering is that the six realms experience it individually through karma. Thus, the world of vessels and the sentient beings within are of various kinds. Even in this one field, the gods mostly have happiness and suffering lies dormant. Humans have a slightly greater mixture of happiness, but suffering also manifests in various ways. In the lower realms, suffering is mostly present and happiness lies dormant, with only existence manifesting. Furthermore, all manifest and dormant happiness and suffering exist in alternation or mixture because they arise from the accumulation of the three causes: virtue, non-virtue, and mixture. Therefore, the result is also experienced as a mixture. For those who have only non-virtue and no virtue, the result is only suffering, like the Avici hell. For those who have only virtue and no non-virtue, the result is only happiness, like the Buddhas. The cause of meritorious virtue is only happiness, like the heavens. The cause of alternation is the alternation of happiness and suffering, with happiness and suffering changing in sequence even in one lifetime. Even in one day or moment, experiencing the change of happiness and suffering is due to past mixed karma, like humans and some animals. The nature of that is explained in detail: Virtue is all the happiness of the happy realms, and non-virtue is all the suffering of the lower realms. Alternation is the experience of mixed happiness and suffering, which appears due to the power of various ways of karma. Thus, doing good generally leads to birth in the happy realms, the worlds of gods and humans in the heavens. In particular, wherever one is born, one becomes adorned with form and beauty, has abundant food, great power, long life, and little harm. Doing evil leads to the lower realms, and in particular, wherever one is born, one suffers harm, poverty, low birth, and ugliness.

Experiencing everything from being afflicted by land and, increased diseases and, hatred among beings and, fear and, sorrow and unease, to even the suffering of being pierced by thorns. As it is said in the Precious Garland: From virtue comes happiness, likewise all happy migrations; from non-virtue comes bad migrations, likewise all suffering. Therefore, although the karma of beings is uncertain and appearances are uncertain and diverse, in summary, they are divided into six realms, established by six different appearances. Among these, first, the appearance of gods is also of two kinds. In the two upper realms: Thus, even in the realm of formless meditation, although there is the peace of meditation produced by virtue and the long life that lasts for eons, it is not permanent because it is contaminated cyclic existence. When life transmigrates from there due to the power of non-virtue, there is the suffering of fearing the future state. Having been born as a god belonging to the categories of the four meditations and the four formless realms, although one enjoys the bliss of meditation because life can last for eons, when the force of the very virtue that is the cause of experiencing it in that way is exhausted, and at the time of the transmigration of life due to the contaminated cause of non-virtue, one does not newly perform virtue on that basis. The fruit of previous virtue is exhausted, and because the force of karma is far away, the seeds of non-virtue are dormant, and because the rope of obtaining is not cut, one sees with clairvoyance that one is falling into the next existence, and there is what is called the suffering of approaching. As it was said in the presence of the master Nagarjuna: All the spontaneously accomplished meditations, such as the Brahma realms, although light and color are infinitely glorious, is there no possibility of being born in hell after death? So he said. The general appearance of the gods of the desire realm, humans, and the types of bad migrations is: Even in the desire realm, there are various kinds of happiness and suffering. In the world of hell beings, hungry ghosts, and animals, the suffering produced by each one's non-virtue is: heat, cold, hunger, thirst, killing, cutting, beating, fighting, etc. It is difficult to endure and will be experienced for a long time. Thus, in the desire realm, due to the different karma of each individual, for those who have temporarily engaged in small, medium, or large non-virtue, the corresponding suffering is: heat and, cold and, hunger and, thirst and, killing and, cutting off limbs and, beating with weapons and sticks, etc., and fighting and.
