Earth Adornment. It is certain that there are twenty-five layers of pure lands, which are divided by the power of the twenty-five wisdoms. Measured from above, the first is the pure land of the body's body, the second is the body's speech, the third is the body's mind, the fourth is the body's qualities, and the fifth is the body's activities. These five pure lands are close to the crown of the head and the face. Then, the sixth is the pure land of the speech's body, the seventh is the speech's speech, the eighth is the speech's mind, the ninth is the speech's qualities, and the tenth is the speech's activities. These five pure lands are close to the throat. Then, the eleventh is the pure land of the mind's body, the twelfth is the mind's speech, and the thirteenth is this very Saha world, which is the pure land of the mind's mind. It is called the Great Special Pure Land, and it is also the place where one enjoys the Dharma of liberation in one lifetime through the Secret Mantra Vajrayana. Then, the fourteenth is the mind's qualities and the fifteenth is the pure land of the mind's activities. These five are close to the heart of Vairochana, the glorious womb, and because they are tamed by the Dharma of the unsurpassed vehicle, they are the world of the mind. Then, the sixteenth is the pure land of the qualities' body, the seventeenth is the pure land of the qualities' speech, the eighteenth is the pure land of the qualities' mind, the nineteenth is the pure land of the qualities' qualities, and the twentieth is the pure land of the qualities' activities, which are close to the navel. Then, the twenty-first is the pure land of the activities' body, the twenty-second is the pure land of the activities' speech, the twenty-third is the pure land of the activities' mind, the twenty-fourth is the pure land of the activities' qualities, and the twenty-fifth is the pure land of the activities' activities. These five are close to the secret place. The way the lamps are arranged in the pure lands is as follows: Thus, in all the pure lands that abide as the basis of the Sambhogakaya, The Great Vairochana, who is perfectly endowed, Appears as various Nirmanakayas who tame beings. In those immeasurable pure lands that rely on the appearance of the Sambhogakaya, From all the places of the Great Vairochana Lake, from the tips of the rays of light, countless Nirmanakayas appear, taming beings in whatever way is necessary, and simultaneously accomplishing the benefit of those sentient beings. From among those that have been selected, Especially in this world of the three thousand Saha worlds, A thousand lamps of Buddhas have been arranged, The nature of which is one.

Thus it appears. Thus, when the Teacher Great Lord saw how to subdue beings in this Sahā world, he knew that it would be subdued by a succession of a thousand Buddhas, with different names, different teachings, and different forms. In the beginning, in the kalpa called Beautiful Appearance, he emanated a thousand youths, and from generating the mind of enlightenment for the sake of others, he gradually showed the way of training, and finally showed the complete deeds of a Buddha. That is, the essence is one, but at different times, the emanation of a thousand Buddhas appears and performs deeds. Such emanation is described in the Sutra of Meeting Father and Son: "Great hero, skillful in means, for the sake of ripening sentient beings, shows hundreds of thousands of millions of Buddhas, and again guides you, showing many Buddhas." Thus, when beings are subdued by whatever means, he shows the initial generation of the mind of enlightenment, the training of the path, the progression from ground to ground, the attainment of enlightenment, and so on, even appearing as birds and animals. Among the thousand Buddhas and the emanations of the two unequaled bodhisattvas, four have already passed: the Buddha of the Destructive Aeon, the Golden Stillness Buddha, the Light-Protecting Buddha, and Shakyamuni Buddha. If you ask, "Didn't the seven Buddhas of the lineage appear?" The answer is that those are the intermediate Buddhas, not counted among the thousand Buddhas, and in the future, many such Buddhas will appear. Among them, regarding how Shakyamuni Buddha appeared in this time of a hundred-year lifespan, the followers of the Lesser Vehicle believe that an ordinary person, with all bonds, becomes a Buddha by practicing the path alone. Some followers of the Great Vehicle believe that from the descent from Tushita up to the time of sitting on the Vajra Throne and entering the fourth dhyana, he is a bodhisattva of the tenth ground, and only then does he become a Buddha. Some believe that at the time of practicing austerities, he becomes a Buddha in Akanishta, and then goes to the Bodhi tree, subdues the Maras, becomes a Buddha, turns the wheel of Dharma, and shows the passing into Nirvana, and that this is the activity of the Buddha. Some believe that he first becomes a Buddha in Akanishta, and then emanates the twelve deeds in this world. Among all these schools, the first to appear was the merchant's son, Brightness.
