Collection of Teachings by Ngawang Lodro Drakpa JNLD22: How Beginners Practice the Sahajakaya Aspect of Their Own Kalachakra Tradition 4-49 How Beginners Practice the Sahajakaya Aspect of Their Own Kalachakra Tradition How Beginners Practice the Sahajakaya Aspect of Their Own Kalachakra Tradition Great Bliss Empty Form Mahamudra, Innate Meaning of the Kalachakra. Ground and Result Inseparable Essence Abides, With Respectful Adoration. Method to Manifest That Nature, Gate for Beginners to Enter. Common and Uncommon Samadhi, and Generation and Recitation, Briefly Explain the Meaning. Here, when we beginners engage in the practice of the sacred Dharma, the first thing needed is the method to improve our own mindstream, that is, the initial practice of the generation and completion stages. Regardless of whether it is the practice of four sessions or any other session, the object of trust and reliance is the ultimate refuge—the Three Jewels, namely the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. 4-50 If we consider the ultimate, innate state, the very nature of the mind is such that adventitious thoughts, afflictions such as attachment, and the entire collection of conceptual fixations, like turbidity in water, are not inherent in the nature of the mind. There is a luminous aspect of the nature of mind that possesses all qualities, which is called the ultimate Buddha who has been present from the beginning. Such a pure aspect of the nature of mind, where all elaborations are completely pacified and the delusion of suffering does not arise in its nature, the pure aspect of the great peace of Dharmadhatu, is called the ultimate Dharma. The aspect of manifesting enlightenment in such a pure state is called the ultimate Sangha. However, in terms of the actual state, there is no refuge, no Three Jewels, apart from the very nature of this self-luminous mind. However, for ordinary beings who cannot fully realize this truth, our teacher Buddha, his scriptures, his realization, and his disciples who possess supreme wisdom, in their respective ways, provide excellent protection to all beings according to their needs. The activities of the Three Jewels are unfailingly beneficial at all times. Here, I will briefly explain the nature of reality.

Taking Refuge in the Three Jewels The very nature of mind, inherently clear and complete, is the essence of the Dharmakaya (法身,Dharmakāya, dharmakāya, body of the law). With unwavering faith, the mind of the glorious root Guru (上师,Guru, guru, teacher) is the sole essence of the wisdom of Dharmadhatu (法界,Dharmadhātu, dharmadhātu, the realm of reality), inherently present from the beginning. Within this Dharmadhatu, to pacify all the deluded appearances of the minds of oneself and all sentient beings, merging them into the single, undifferentiated mind, one takes refuge with fervent aspiration. This is the gateway to taking refuge in this context, and one must cultivate deep conviction in this. Furthermore, the source of undesirable experiences such as aging, sickness, and death for oneself and others is the contaminated physical body, and especially the consciousness with its deluded appearances, the inner afflicted mind-consciousness that perceives subject and object as real, and the outer sense consciousnesses that proliferate towards desirable sense objects. If one does not gain freedom from all these avenues, the force of afflictions such as attachment and aversion will inevitably increase on their own. It is difficult to find opportunities for virtuous objects of faith, and even a small capacity to work with them is rare. Therefore, without freedom in any direction, countless faults naturally arise, and this is the very cause of constantly experiencing suffering. Repeatedly emphasizing with many reasons, the source of all suffering, such a body and mind, has been continuous since beginningless time. As long as one is not separated from these bodies and minds, the maturation of either virtuous or non-virtuous karma will bring intense suffering, and occasionally one may experience fleeting moments of change and equanimity, only to inevitably return to intense suffering. This is a state where the attainment of lasting happiness is never realized. Therefore, one must recognize that this body and mind are the very nature of suffering in samsara (轮回,Saṃsāra, saṃsāra, cyclic existence). Resolve deeply that this samsara, encompassing any of the three realms, is a source of hundreds of undesirable things, a place that is extremely difficult to escape. When will there be a time when oneself and others are separated from this suffering body and mind? When will one have the opportunity to completely separate from these bodies and minds? If the continuation of such suffering is completely cut off, then the peaceful realm of wisdom will become the supreme and ultimate happiness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
