The Practice of Saraswati: The Great Ship Entering the Ocean of Knowledge Namo Sarva Jñāye (Tibetan: ན་མཿསརྦ་ཛྙཱ་ཡེ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमः सर्वज्ञाय, Sanskrit Romanization: namaḥ sarvajñāya, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to all-knowing ones) Wisdom in the sky of Dharmadhatu, the light of compassion flourishes, dispelling the darkness of sentient beings' minds, I prostrate to the Guru Saraswati. To bring joy to those of mediocre intelligence, I will clearly explain the practice of this deity, which is a collection of teachings from past masters. Here, I will explain the practice of Vajra Saraswati, the red deity with three faces and six arms, from the Black Enemy Tantra of Glorious Yamantaka, which includes three parts: preliminary, main practice, and concluding practice. First, in a suitable place, clean and sweep, build a high platform, cover it with white cloth, and scatter various grains. Place a torma on the platform, avoiding mixing it with meat, blood, garlic, onions, etc. Carefully smear the round torma with white butter and decorate it with beautiful ornaments. In front of the torma, arrange two servings of water and the five preliminary offerings. If possible, facing them, offer a painting or statue of Vajra Saraswati. On a low table in front of oneself, prepare a bell, vajra, and torma box, filled with white rice or barley, etc. This is the preliminary practice. For the main practice, on the day after an auspicious day, bathe and purify oneself, dress in fine clothes, and outside the practice room, construct a boundary according to the common ritual. Enter and sit on a comfortable cushion in a peaceful and gentle posture of meditation. First, pray to the Guru, purify the offerings with 'Om Amrite Hum Phat (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་ཨ་མྲྀ་ཏེ་ཧཱུྃ་ཕཊཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम् अमृत हुम् फट, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ amṛte hūṃ phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, nectar, Hum, Phat)'. Purify with 'Svabhava (Tibetan: སྭ་བྷཱ་ཝས་, Sanskrit Devanagari: स्वभाव, Sanskrit Romanization: svabhāva, Literal Chinese meaning: Self-nature)'. From emptiness, from 'Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम्, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om)' arise vast containers made of jewels, filled with divine offerings transformed from the light of 'Om (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम्, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om)': water for drinking, water for washing feet, flowers, incense, lamps, perfume, food, and music, clear and unobstructed, pervading the boundless sky. Make the mudras of each offering and recite 'Om Vajra Argham Svaha (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ཨརྒྷཾ་སྭཱཧཱ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम् वज्र अर्घम् स्वाहा, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ vajra arghaṃ svāhā, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, Vajra, Offering, Svaha)'. Likewise, from beginning to end, from foot-washing water to musical instruments, ring the bell and vajra, and recite the Dharmadhatu Mantra three times to bless them. Refuge: In the space in front, visualize your root guru as truly present. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Visualize the Guru as the Sangha Jewel, speech as the sacred Dharma, and mind as the essence of all Buddhas. The person taking refuge, myself, along with enemies, demons, and obstructors, as well as all sentient beings of the six realms, including parents, visualize them as a gathering like clouds surrounding you on all sides. From this moment until attaining the essence of enlightenment, with sincere and heartfelt devotion, recite: 'Guru and Three Jewels, be mindful of me.' I and all sentient beings of the three realms, as vast as the sky, from this moment until attaining the essence of enlightenment, take refuge in the glorious and holy Gurus! I take refuge in the perfectly enlightened, blessed Buddhas! I take refuge in the sacred Dharma! I take refuge in the noble Sangha!' Recite this seven or twenty-one times, then bring your palms together at your heart. Bow down to the Guru and the Three Jewels and take refuge. Pray that they bless my being. After this prayer, white light radiates from the heart of the Guru in the refuge field, touching myself and all sentient beings taking refuge, purifying all sins and obscurations, and the sentient beings return to their respective pure lands. The Guru dissolves into white light and merges into you from the crown of your head, visualizing that you have been blessed. Again, contemplate: I have liberated most of the beings dwelling in the realms of sentient beings from extreme suffering and placed them in the state of Vajra Saraswati. For the benefit of all sentient beings, I will attain the state of perfect enlightenment. For this purpose, I will practice the meditation and recitation of Vajra Saraswati. Recite this three times to generate Bodhicitta. Visualize yourself instantly transforming into Vajra Saraswati, with the Tibetan letter ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: A) at your heart, and above it, on a lunar disc, the Tibetan letter དོཿ (Tibetan: དོཿ, Devanagari: दोः, Romanized Sanskrit: doh, Literal meaning: Doh). Light radiates from the letter དོཿ (Tibetan: དོཿ, Devanagari: दोः, Romanized Sanskrit: doh, Literal meaning: Doh), and Vajra Saraswati is surrounded by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Invite the field of merit in the sky in front of you, reciting ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ས་མཱ་ཛཿ (Tibetan, 唵 班匝 萨玛匝, Devanagari: ॐ वज्र समाज, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ vajra samājaḥ, Literal meaning: Om, Vajra, Samaja), while making the Vajra summoning mudra and sounding a conch shell. Visualize offering immeasurable offerings to it, and make the respective mudras, reciting: ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་སྭ་ར་སྭསྟི་ས་པ་རི་ཝཱ་ར་ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ཨརྒྷཾ་སྭཱཧཱ་ (Tibetan, 嗡 班匝 萨ra 萨瓦斯德 萨巴热瓦ra 嗡 班匝 阿刚 梭哈, Devanagari: ॐ वज्र सरस्वति सपरिवार ॐ वज्र अर्घ्यं स्वाहा, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ vajra sarasvati saparivāra oṃ vajra arghyaṃ svāhā, Literal meaning: Om, Vajra, Saraswati, retinue, Om, Vajra, Arghyam, Svaha) up to ཤཔྟ་ (Tibetan, 夏巴达, Devanagari: शब्द, Romanized Sanskrit: śabda, Literal meaning: Sound). Cross your fingers and bring your hands together in Vajra Anjali at your heart, reciting: I take refuge in the Three Jewels, for the benefit of beings, I will become a Buddha. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
