The Collected Teachings of Machig are present herein. Oṃ Svasti. Homage to the realm beyond words, beyond thought, beyond conception, the realm beyond realms, the unconditioned expanse. This great collection of Chöd teachings: Chöd severs the very nature of conceptual thought. Teachings are expounded in the assembly of teachings. Written down for the benefit of beings. The root of demons is one's own mind. Whatever appears as objects to awareness, clinging and attachment are seized by demons. The mind is deceived by grasping at objects. Demons are divided into four types: demons with obstacles and demons without obstacles, demons of joy and aversion, and demons of pride. These are all included in the demons of pride. Although there are many kinds of demons with obstacles, whatever appears at the gates of the senses, examination with acceptance and rejection is a demon with obstacles. Being fixated binds one to samsara. Form is empty by its very nature. By not grasping form as a thing, one does not cling to form and meditates on emptiness. By not grasping form as definite, one is liberated from the demon of permanence. By not meditating on emptiness in the mind, one is liberated from the demon of nihilism. Appearances of form cannot be denied, but if one does not grasp them as definite, they are the mind's own appearances. Sound, smell, taste, touch, and mind, and so on, are the same. Mind is a demon without obstacles, and whatever arises from the gates of the senses is included in the demons with obstacles. Whatever appears before the senses is directly cut through with the view of self-liberation, and becomes great undifferentiated ignorance. The way demons without obstacles arise is: feelings of good and bad arising from the objects of the mind are all distinctions made by one's own thoughts. These are taught as demons without obstacles. Because one has not realized one's own mind, holding onto gods as gods, and holding onto evil spirits as evil spirits, these are all hopes and fears of the mind, one's own demons rising up in oneself. The nature of mind is vast and clear, and whatever thoughts and concepts arise. For example, just as waves and so on arise from the unwavering ocean. Thus, the yogi of awareness does not fabricate or alter, but leaves it in its own place. It cannot harm or benefit, it is liberated in its own place. Self-arising from the expanse of dharmata, it is not appropriate to accept or reject with jealousy. Without accepting or rejecting, it is self-arising mind. The way demons of joy and aversion arise is: common demons and supreme demons arise from the confused mind. In dangerous places, demons do not prevail , pride

Having joy and elation arises, it is a sign of blessing and power. Attachment to merit and wealth is a demon, attachment to fame and reputation is a demon. Gods and demons bestow accomplishments, sons, relatives, and retinues gather, the demon of joy and elation arises from joy and elation. Whatever merit and manifestation arise, with a non-dual view, do not grasp merit as your own, like a dream, with a mind free from attachment, wonderful appearance is naturally beautiful, naturally appearing and naturally adorned, without generating arrogance. If arrogance arises, it will be confused by discrimination. Non-grasping, natural liberation, is the supreme severance. Wise people should keep this in mind. The supreme demon has two aspects, appearing as the path and the fruit. Elation arises from the view free from elaboration, elation arises from practicing equanimity, elation arises from non-conceptual conduct, elation arises from the path of practice. If you cling to external objects even slightly, you will not be able to go on the right path, but will engage in demonic activities. For the symbolism of view, practice, and conduct, there is no need to deliberately focus on it. From unobstructed appearances, do not generate thoughts of view. Throw experiences into the boundless space, not looking is the supreme view. Apart from the self-born nature of mind, there is no practitioner who can practice. Whatever arises, the sensations of self-born appearances, let them exist naturally, clearly, and brightly. Because it is unchanging, it is natural, because it is certain and realized, it is clear, because it is naturally liberated, it is bright. For example, like putting butter in butter, unadorned meditation is the supreme meditation. Spontaneous behavior, naturally arising, naturally liberated, there is no need to deliberately abandon it. When experiences arise, there is no need to correct them with antidotes. If you know that everything is naturally arising, naturally liberated, there is no obstacle. Because the difference in realization is great, certain and undoubted behavior is not forbidden. Before realization, one should not engage in conduct. The key point of this instruction, relying on the blessing and confidence of the guru, strike fiercely at various discriminations. After gradually receiving blessings, certain and undoubted realization will appear. This precise instruction, surpasses all severances, the conduct of not deliberately severing is supreme. If you do not practice anything, that is the real practice. Experience is the knowable, the experience of wisdom, do not cling to the object of consciousness. Non-grasping, natural liberation, is the meaning of severance. Wise people should keep this in mind.
