The reason to search for the mind is that the root of all happiness and suffering is the mind, so it must be sought. Buddhas appear in the mind, so it must be sought. If students do not seek the mind, the guru cannot point it out, so it must be sought. How then should this mind be sought? Starting from tonight, practice these three words for seven days: look at where the mind is located, look at what its form is like, look at what its color is like. First, the mind does not arise, but nine things arise. Wisdom radiates in various ways, various thoughts. Where does it come from in the beginning? It comes from oneself. Where does it abide in the middle? It abides in oneself. Where does it dissolve in the end? It dissolves in oneself. Therefore, one's entire body, one's entire flesh, there is no other place besides this. From the crown of the head above to the soles of the feet below, search for where it is. Divide the head and limbs and search. Break it down into parts and particles and search. Is it on the skin? Is it on the bones? Is it in the internal organs? Is it in the heart? Is it in the blood and lymph? Is it in the muscles and tendons? Is it in the five senses? Is it in the sleeping place and the sitting place? Look to see if it is in the seams of the clothes. Look at what the form of the mind is like: liking and disliking, happiness and suffering, birth, old age, sickness, and death, etc., all the makers are in the mind itself, what is its essence like? Look at what the form is like? Is it square? Is it round? Is it spherical? Is it flat? Is it like a grain of barley? Is it triangular? Look at where it is. Look at what the color of the mind is like: various thoughts arise, countless thoughts radiate, so many thoughts come, therefore the mind is a sign of existence. If it were a non-existent thing, these would not arise. If it is an existent thing, there will be a color. Look at what color the mind is? Where are white, black, yellow, red, blue, and green? Where are mottled and dark blue? Look up at the mind, look down at the mind. Trace the source, trace the end. Let wisdom shoot far. Look, search, dig, destroy, and repeatedly observe. If you cannot find the mind, suddenly change, suddenly remember, look at this sudden arising. Do not be distracted by the occurrence of that change, look at where that changer is.

See how it is. If you look but don't see, and search but don't find, then let it relax like a break. For three or seven days, put aside prayers and other virtuous deeds, and focus solely on finding the mind and experiencing it. Each day, clarify these three words so that you become 'I'. The next day, the teacher should also ask, 'Did you find the movement of the mind? Did you find it? How is it?' Clarify it as before. For these three days, I have only three words to say, and you must keep searching. If you feel tired, weary, interrupted, distracted, forgetful, or sleepy, then where was it sent? Where did it come from? In this time of distinguishing between samsara and nirvana, there is no time to sit idly. To attain Buddhahood, meditation must arise. To generate meditation, the mind must be sought. If you don't seek the mind, wonder if it will come or not, and consult with yourself. It is important to generate wisdom. Good mind-seeking, good meditation. Medium mind-seeking, medium meditation. Poor mind-seeking, poor meditation arises. Therefore, strive to seek, and the longer the time, the better the meditation will come. (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Meaning).
