Due to not knowing the true nature, it becomes ignorance. From this, one mistakenly grasps onto the grasper and the grasped, and revolves in the three realms. As it is said in the Net of Illusion Tantra: "Emaho! The Tathagatagarbha is deluded by its own conceptual thoughts." Likewise, not knowing the state of abiding is the fundamental ignorance. From the state of being the basis, seed, or support for generating the initial delusion, the arising of dualistic conceptual thoughts is the ignorance of complete imputation. From these two, lower sentient beings in the three lower realms, intermediate humans, and superior gods, each experiences different appearances. Through the power of accumulating various habitual tendencies in the Alaya consciousness, the cycle of existence rises and falls like a water bucket, with each experiencing their own self-appearing joys and sorrows. As it is said in the Compendium: "Lower sentient beings, intermediate, and superior, all these arise from ignorance, as spoken by the Tathagata." Thus, although cycling through the three realms, the essence of the Tathagata does not fall into lower states, but pervades and abides in all sentient beings. As it is said in the Garland of Glory Sutra: "The Tathagatagarbha pervades all beings." And as it is said in the Uttaratantra: "Because the perfect Buddha body radiates light, and because there is no distinction in suchness, and because beings have the lineage, all embodied beings constantly possess the Tathagatagarbha." Thus it is taught. Even when it is the time of sentient beings, that Tathagatagarbha is obscured by the mind and abides with defilements. As it is said in the Net of Illusion Tantra: "Like water in the earth, its nature is always without defilement. Likewise, the realm of mental obscuration naturally abides in all beings." And as it is said in the Uttaratantra: "Like a treasure of earth in the house of a poor person, the person does not know it, and the treasure does not say to him, 'I am here.' Likewise, the precious treasure contained within the mind, the stainless, unchanging Dharma nature, is not realized, and thus beings experience the suffering of poverty in every way." Thus it is. That Tathagatagarbha is like the sun's disc, and the Alaya consciousness, together with habitual tendencies, and all the minds and mental factors included in the three realms, are like clouds. A fool who pretends to be wise.

Some argue that mind and mental factors should not be considered obstructions because they give rise to Bodhicitta, and the nature of mind is luminosity, which is the element. Therefore, to say that non-conceptual mind is Samadhi, a limb of enlightenment, is a manifestation of not understanding the intent of the Sutras and Tantras. Isn't the generation of Bodhicitta also a discriminating thought that accepts and rejects in the state of Samsara? If so, then it must ultimately cease. If it is said to be the nature of mind, then it is not appropriate because it cannot be established since there is no producer and produced. Do not separate mind and the nature of mind; mind is within the three realms, with discrimination and speculation, and all kinds of clinging and deluded appearances, it is the Alaya consciousness and the eight aggregates of consciousness. As the Madhyamaka Two Truths states: "Mind and mental factors are within the three realms, discriminating with clinging appearances." The nature of mind is the Sugata-garbha, the luminous wisdom; when the mind ceases and is non-existent, the luminous wisdom of the nature of mind manifests in one's own awareness. The Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra says: "Mind has no mind, because the nature of mind is luminous." If someone asks, is there a great mind in the Buddha-ground? That refers to great wisdom, which is consistent with the statement in the Tantras that great afflictions are wisdom. In short, the mind and mental factors within the three realms, along with various habitual tendencies, from beginningless time, possess the nature of the two obscurations, and are taught to be generated, therefore they should be abandoned and negated. However, what is relied upon now is the state of the luminous nature of mind, in a way that does not rely on anything, like clouds floating in the sky. As the Uttaratantra Shastra says: "Earth depends on water, water on wind, wind on space, space does not depend on wind, water, and earth. These aggregates, elements, and sense bases depend on karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions are not real, non-reality is attention, attention abides in the purity of mind, the nature of mind, all dharmas, do not depend on anything." The Commentary on Valid Cognition says: "The nature of mind is luminous, defilements are temporary." This is also consistent with the above view, the nature of mind
