Liberation through the power of (something), liberation through the power of habituating meditation, liberation through the power of knowing conduct, and liberation through the power of the arising of results, there are four. The first is: previously, during the bardo of birth and death, knowing the nature of appearance and mind as emptiness, at that time, merely remembering it will lead to liberation. The second is: previously, habituating the meditation of abiding in clear light, the wisdom of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, at that time, merely mixing with the arising awareness will lead to liberation. The third is: previously, whatever arises, practicing without acceptance or rejection in the manner of illusion, cultivating the power of Samantabhadra's conduct, at that time, merely remembering will lead to knowing that all self-appearances of the bardo are unreal like dreams and illusions. Realizing the non-duality of acceptance and rejection, thereby manifesting enlightenment. The fourth is: previously, determining that awareness is self-liberated, spontaneously accomplished great perfection, thereby eliminating modification and acceptance or rejection, abiding in the state of primordial complete great perfection, contemplating the meaning of the primordial exhaustion point, at that time, merely remembering will lead to instantaneous liberation on the primordial ground, thereby manifesting enlightenment. Thus, these seven days of self-appearance are the seven existences. The sutra says: far beyond the seven existences. The tantra says: the seven existences are the holders. Its meaning is: one is liberated where one is now extremely familiar, otherwise it is not. Now, if one is well habituated, liberation there is extremely easy. For example, because of being accustomed to daytime, when one grasps (the dream) in a dream, dreaming of various terrors at night, merely knowing it is a dream leads to instantaneous liberation. Moreover, because the current awareness increases sevenfold, the dream is clear, the gross awareness ceases, and wisdom arises from the alaya, like images appearing in a mirror. The dream increases sevenfold, so the bardo is clear, because form and awareness are separated, there is no bondage of the substantial illusory body. Wisdom arises from the alaya, in order to practice the past habits of various self-appearing objects. Moreover, entering into existence is because of the mixture of ignorance and attachment and aversion. At that time, there is no attachment or aversion to any dharma, thereby knowing that one's own mind is rootless, and through it, one's own mind is liberated, thereby not entering into samsara. Moreover, the basis of

The nature of reality, or the end, or the primordial nature of reality, or the expanse of the luminous nature of mind, which is naturally pure, is none other than this present, unadulterated awareness. Therefore, in the ground where one knows one's own face, it is called liberation in the realm of Kuntuzangpo. Furthermore, the appearances of the six realms are untrue, the cessation of the generation stage, the impurity of the womb of gods and humans, and the contemplation of pure lands are all excellent instructions that come along the way. With these, the instructions on liberation in the bardo through luminosity have been explained. The third point is the transference of consciousness, the instruction for liberation in the future. Imagine yourself as any chosen deity, and from your heart, imagine your mind as a ball of five-colored threads. With twenty-one HIK (ཧིཀ་,,,,), shoot it from the aperture of Brahma at the crown of your head into the pure lands of the five families, such as Ogmin, and merge it into the hearts of Vairochana and others. Generate faith that is inseparable from the Buddha's heart, and practice diligently for three days until a hole appears in the crown of your head. Then, practice once a month. With the wisdom of the rainbow body, transfer your consciousness to that pure land daily with YAD (ཡད་,,,,), but do not verbally recite HIK (ཧིཀ་,,,,). If you become accustomed to this, in the future you will be born in the pure land of the Buddha and attain perfect enlightenment. Thus, may the great drum of eloquent speech, like a cloud, awaken all beings from the sleep of ignorance, and may we perfect the qualities of abandonment and realization, and become the spontaneously accomplished Dharma King of the three kayas! This method, in the heart of the white skull of the snow mountain, in the sacred place called Orgyen Dzong, was well written by me, Drime Ozer (Vimalamitra). May all assemblies of faithful beings be happy! The essential instructions on the Great Perfection, the self-liberation of equality, called "The Precious Heart Essence," composed by the yogi Drime Ozer, blessed by the great master of Orgyen, Shakya Sengge, is complete. The glorious mistress of mantra, Srogdrubma, and the butcher Mar Nag, and Dorje Legpa, protect this teaching! Entrust it to those who have karma. If it falls into the hands of those without karma, inflict a severe punishment! Samaya! GYA GYA GYA (རྒྱ་རྒྱ་རྒྱ།,,,,)! Good! From the "Legacy of the Ancestors," the collected works of Longchen Rabjam, [22] The Precious Heart Essence of the Instructions on the Self-Liberation of Equality.
