It seems that there were many holders of the Nyingtig tradition, and many non-sectarian scholars and accomplished masters also practiced it extensively. To give a brief example, Jetsun Sakya Pandita and Mila Bazha, among others, have clarified the methods of practice in their respective writings. Similarly, through comparing the biographies and writings of successive Gyalwa Karmapas, Jetsun Tsongkhapa, and Kunkhyen Fifth Rinpoche, it can be understood that they made Nyingtig their main practice. Moreover, various schools do not need to rely solely on the Nyingma lineage transmission; there are many Dzogchen teachings that have been transmitted as blessings received by each individual. For example, the Sakya school has a profound and extensive Dzogchen Dharma cycle called "Ati of Samten Lingpa." In the Kagyu tradition, Dharma Lord Rangjung Dorje directly received the Dzogchen Karma Nyingtig cycle from Vimalamitra. Within this, there are two great traditions: the lineage transmitted from the great scholar Vimalamitra, and the lineage transmitted from Padmasambhava, the Second Buddha of Oddiyana.
